This is not a post filled with sour grapes - I made a light play on West Virginia last night over Syracuse mainly on North Coast’s recommendation. My faves in Bettors Chat were relatively split. ( My own sheet was a tear up for the night as I made an equal bet on the Astros )
As usual, I watched the football game with the sound off . For many years now I have muted ALL football games , College and Pro., with one exception. I will listen to Keith Jackson and Keith Jackson only … Mussberger rubs me the wrong way , as do the 3 Stooges on ESPN Sunday Night Football … ( Can’t you just see MacGuire poking Theisman in the eyes with 2 fingers then that other guy who’s name escapes me now – hit Mac Guire over the head with a microphone ?) ….. as does “ Monotone” Marv Albert and his half – wit brothers here in New York, younger brother “ Al” Albert , and even younger - still brother , “ Kenny “ Albert … and how BAD was “ Kenny “ Albert on Wednesday night as the Fox Network Interviewer after the Sox beat the Yanks ?? What a Whimp !! He looks as though he’s never EVER had so much as a passing relationship with a piece of sports equipment …. Pretty Piss Poor Job He Did …… Al Michaels on MNFB is another mirage … and by the way AL, …NO, I do not believe in miracles.
I watch the games primarily to scout teams for future bets and I consider myself a fairly good eye for football talent, so I do not need anyone else impairing my judgment by saying great things about mediocre players and teams … e.g. … a friend called me last Saturday while he was watching Boston College lay down big time to Pittsburgh and told me that one ESPN announcer called Tyler Palko a GREAT Quarterback. Do any of you know who Tyler Palko is ? He’s the U of Pitt QB. “ Tyler” must have a relative who works for ESPN. Either that or he’s banging Gwyneth Paltro … or Nick Faldo ? Maybe Candy Maldonado ? ...Whatever …
I also heard that one of the Sunday Night Stooges described Daunte Culpepper as “ Intelligent” and “Mature “ … What a steaming load of BS and …. P.S. … moments after THAT phone call I watched “ Daunte” do the most ridiculous , obnoxious , ridiculous dance after throwing a touchdown pass. ( Yes I mentioned the word “ ridiculous” twice. ) Have you guys seen Daunte’s Dance yet ? I’ts quite the embarrassment. How Sad ! Here’s a flash for you , Daunte , before you dance … win a meaningful game.
This all having been said …. And most of you know by now that I could have said all this and most of my other posts for that matter … in many less words … LMAO … I know, I know … I admit it - I love to hear myself type ….. but you cut me a lot of slack because you know I care about You and BettorsChat A LOT . Also , my AVATAR BABES are HOT. Let’s put our cards on the table - you let me hang with you because the TRIM THAT I SHOW UP WITH IS PRIMO. ( LMAO )
Now I don’t know what those ESPN geeks were saying last night - but I saw an ill – prepared , ill- coached , unmotivated Syracuse team playing a team who chose not to run up the score and I don’t know why this game didn’t come back 56-3 or 65 –0 or name the score yourselves. I can almost read their lips in the huddle before one of their many idiotic and unimaginative plays …. “ Fuck Paul … let’s botch this one and see if his hair gets any more grey. Maybe … just Maybe .. he’ll get his skinny white ass fired soon”.
Here’s my question and it really is an unimportant one at that …. Why does the once proud Syracuse University Athletic Department continue to employ a coach of so –so caliber? ( and I’m being kind here ) He’s been with them 14 years now and yeah he’s won some minor to middle level bowl games and overall has a winning record but he always leaves his team’s fans wanting more. In the last 5 years Syracuse’s record has been 6-6, 4-8, 9-3, 6-5, 6-5, having gone to 2 bowl games in that span. At 3-4 this season to date they’ll need to win 3 of their next 4 vs. U Connecticut, Pittsburgh ( remember now they have a GREAT QB ), Temple, and finally Boston College. Looks like an Iffy proposition to me. Is football less of a priority than basketball at Syracuse? It must be.
Once a week 5 or 6 of us meet for dinner which invariably leads to a round table (mainly sports) discussion. I’m the moderator, posing a topic or question for discussion , then I sit back and just listen. I don’t participate … I let my buds talk it out. We have lots of fun . Last week I brought up Pasqualoni’s name and after 20 minutes or so everyone reached an agreement and a verdict :
‘He’s EXTREMELY CONNECTED and rakes in truckloads of dough for the University from the Alumni”.
Then I asked : “Do you think that these generous donations are given for the sole purpose of a tax write –off and nothing more?
They came back with:
“Good Old Paulie must know how to return a favor.”
Maybe so ... nothing surprises me any more.
All the Best,
