    The Animal

    College Bask! etball:
    3 Units on Florida -22½ -110

Chances are fairly good here that Florida players #6-through-#12 on the bench are far superior than starters on New Orleans. This game just missed “The Animal’s” famous 80/80 theory. Florida is averaging 80.8 points a game in their 13 home wins (13-0). New Orleans is allowing 78.2 points a game in their 10 road contests (1-9). The Privateers just came off a 3-game road trip in which they allowed 79, 78, and 85 points to the trio of Arkansas-Little Rock, New Mexico State, and UL-Lafayette. The key here is we have the Gators returning home off a conference defeat and eager to destroy another victim in Gainesville. Considering Florida just beat SEC foes Mississippi and Alabama by 19 points apiece, we have to assume the Gators can hammer New Orleans by 23 or more. Keep in mind Saturday New Orleans almost lost to the penitentiary Florida International winning 49-48 as an 8 ½-point favorite. New Orleans i! n 2003 has already lost on the road at Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State by 19 and 17 points back on January 16th and 18th. This marks the 4th game out of five on the highway for the Privateers and they should get obliterated tonight in the Sunshine State. I don’t make it a habit of laying 20 or more points but can’t resist this with the Gators dominating home court and off a defeat.

    Pro Basketball:
    1 Unit on Miami Heat +11 -110
NBA FREEBIE: MIAMI The Heat will roll into the Palace without the services of Eddie Jones who is out with a groin problem but the unpopular Travis Best does his best work when Jones is off the floor and loves the spotlight all on him. The Pistons come in an a 6-1 SU/ATS run but have only laid out double-digits 3 times this year with an early cover against Denver. But, in the other 2 instances against Cleveland and Toronto they failed miserably. Let’s face it, the Pistons don’t score enough points to warrant being a favorite of anywhere near this many points.

      Rob Crowne
      Today's Pick: NEW MEXICO -1
NEW MEXICO -1 over Colorado State

The season basketball record is 27-20. The record of all picks, including basketball sides and totals, baseball sides and totals, hockey sides and totals, and football sides and totals since we started here at the Plus10 Club stands at 126-92.You know it's true because you were able to play every winner along with me. You've been able to monitor me in the best way of all -- with your bank account!
      ====================================
We're on a 4-0 run, and we're looking to make it 5-0 tonight. There's a blizzard going on here in New York and everywhere from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia to the New England States later today. Expect games like Providence to possibly be cancelled. They say they are going to play the Maryland/Wake Forest game at 3:00 today, but I doubt it. The game will probably be postponed again.

So here I sit with my cup of cocoa looking out at the snow and handicapping the New Mexico team (as opposed to the Old Mexico team) to Wolf down the Rams for dinner tonight.

New Mexico lost to Colorado State by a 16 earlier this season in Colorado. So why should they win today? Revenge is sweet -- that's why. Revenge is a biggie in college baskets, particularly when the team seeking revenge lost on the road and is now home. The home to home differentials in college basketball can be huge. Don't ever be fooled by that add 4 points for the home court nonsense you see in those power rating charts (you never had a winning season with that power rating nonsense did you?).

Colorado State averages 13 fewer points on the road than at home, and allows a huge 18 more points on the road than their home average. New Mexico is 5 points better offensively and 11 points better defensively at home than they are on the road. All totaled that's a 47 point turn around home to home for these two teams. Still think that 16 point win in Colorado means Colorado State will win this one in New Mexico?

Most of what the majority of handicappers believe is the emotional lift of revenge is really a home to home turnaround. No special emotions required except the normal emotions of playing in front of a friendly crowd, and the normal disadvantage for the visitor playing in front of a scary and hostile crowd. Of course it doesn't hurt that the home team will probably be focused and will not let down because of the prior loss, so we can expect them to play up to those home abilities, while the road team may psychologically let down thinking they'll get another easy win.

New Mexico will probably not win by 31, as the home to home differential would suggest, but double digit win is very possible, and all we have to lay is 1 point.

The balance in our offshore account now stands at +$717. We started the account with $50, and we're trying to see how rich we can become before the bookmaker chases us away. For today, we'll risk $55 to win $50 on New Mexico -1.

dr bob utah jazz write up

        Monday NBA Opinion
        UTAH (-6) 100 Minnesota 90
The Timberwolves won their 6th straight game last night at home against the Warriors, but traveling to Utah to play in the high altitude is a bad situation for unrested teams. The Jazz are 7-2 ATS this year when hosting a team that played the previous day and they are 62-28-1 ATS in that role over the years when not favored by 15 points or more. Minnesota is just 4-9 ATS this season when visiting a winning team and Utah is 18-6 ATS as a home favorite. My home-road ratings favor Utah by 6 points in this game, so the line is fair and I’ll consider the Jazz a Strong Opinion tonight.
