5* KEY RELEASE – Saturday, October 16th at 3:30 PM EST
TEXAS (-) over Missouri by 30
“Not scoring at Texas is unacceptable.” Those were head coach Mack Brown’s words in the Monday press conference following the Longhorns 12-0 loss to the Sooners. At first glance, UT’s offensive woes look as if they could continue this week especially matched up against a Missouri stop unit that’s ranked eight in the country in total defense. I wouldn’t count on that happening.
If you take a closer look, Missouri’s defensive performances have come against Arkansas State, Troy State, Ball State, Colorado and Baylor. None of those five schools are offensive powerhouses. In fact, the Indians, Cardinals and Bears all average less than 20 points per game! When the Tigers line up against this high-octane Longhorns unit, they’ll be facing the best offense they’ve seen all season long! Texas averages 33.2 points and 471 total yards per game including 314 yards on the ground!
Today’s meeting with Missouri will be Texas’ first since the 2001 season. After this one is over, the Tigers will be hoping it’s their last for a while. Check out some of these incredible team trends. After knocking helmets with Oklahoma, Texas is a solid 13-6 SU and 13-3-2 ATS including 9-0-1 ATS in that role if the Longhorns are coming off a straight up loss. Even better, as favorites of -13’ or more coming off a blemish, UT stands a blistering 14-3 ATS and has won and covered 13 straight in that role by an average of 30.7 points per game. On the other side of the field, Missouri is 10-38-1 SU and 19-30 ATS as a guest coming off a straight up win including 4-13-1 SU and 6-12 ATS in that set matched up against a foe that enters off a straight up loss.
Missouri’s early season schedule was filled with creampuffs. In the Tigers first true test of the season, watch them fail miserably against this Texas team still smarting off its loss to Oklahoma. Hook ‘em Horns!
