SOUTHERN METHODIST MUSTANGS @ RICE OWLS

SATURDAY OCTOBER 9TH @ 8 PM EST

Boys if last week as anything to do with this, tonight could be one fun filled evening. Last week SMU gave up 38 points in a losing cause, and Rice suffered their first defeat despite scoring a whopping 63 points. Yep that's right they lost 70-63 after leading by as many as three touchdowns and giving up 24 points in the last quarter. This is a Mustang squad that is sure to improve upon last year's 0-12 season, since they have already registered one win in four trys. Even though Southern Methodist returned 19 starters from last year, remember that's 19 from an "o" for the season year. Their goal at SMU has been to climb out of the cellar and have been picked to finish 8th out of ten by the conference coaches. Unfortunately five of the returning eight starters are either banged up and not at full strength or will not play at all. All this for a Rice team that has averaged 39 points in the last three outings including the game versus the University of Texas.

The Rice Owls are 3-1 SU and ATS recently in this series, and have played two bowl teams in their first four in Hawaii and Texas. The home team is 6-1-1 ATs in this series and Rice is 12-2 ATS when playing WAC Conference games at home. Don't forget the Owls run the Wishbone, that very few people run anymore, and requires a great deal of preparation to defend. Here's a trend you probably should pay a great deal of attention to. When SMU allows 28 or more points they are 3-45 ATS, and we've already made our point about Rice ability to put points on the board. Owls are laying 13.5 and your experts at RED ZONE SPORTS see them putting up 40 plus. This translates into a Rice Owl cover and victory.
