Los Angeles +150 vs. St. Louis
Dodgers @ Cardinals St Louis has made the playoffs four times in the last five years, but they are still searching for their first trip to the World Series since 1987. This is a team with a history of postseason failure under Tony LaRussa, and I don’t expect 2004 to be any different. The Cards are a big favorite in this ballgame and in this series, but frankly, I don’t see enough of a difference between these two squads to warrant a price in this range. Odalis Perez has been the better of the two starters this year, particularly down the stretch. Let’s not forget that Woody Williams got bombed by the Astros in his last start, allowing 8 earned runs in three innings of work. Perez, on the other hand, comes into the postseason in great current form, lasting eight innings in each of his last two starts, allowing only seven hits combined in those ballgames. LA’s offense has more potency than people give them credit for, especially with Milton Bradley back in action. The value here lies with the underdog.
Recommendation: Los Angeles
