Elon has a 1-2 record, with their only win coming against hapless Delaware State.Ê Weak early schedule has done a good job to conceal their offensive ineptitude--the were the worst total offense team in 1-AA LY--but smoke and mirrors won't get it done against Georgia Southern.Ê Eagles only loss this year was a season opening tiltÊ against the University of Georgia and in that loss they put up 28 points against the Dawgs--more than both of Georgia's 1-A opponents this year *combined*.Ê Instead of taking a "moral victory" from a decent showing on the road against one of the top 1-A teams in the nation it appears that it did little more than piss off the Eagles, who've kicked the living crap out of every team that has gotten in their way since.Ê In the subsequent 3 games GaSo has outscored their opponents by a combined score of 193-34 for an average margin of victory of a mere 53 ppg.Ê Most impressive was a 58-14 drubbing of a very good Wofford team, along with an 84-3 obliteration of Johnson C. Smith which the Eagles led 58-0 at halftime and basically had to not try in the second half lest they hit the century mark.Ê Elon is better than Johnson C. Smith, but still not good enough to do much here.Ê Without a viable running game to sustain drives and keep the clock running it'll get ugly.Ê Georgia Southern wins this one by 48+.....

RECOMMENDATION ONLY:Ê Northwestern State -38' over Panhandle State

Typically, when a Division II team runs up against a superior 1-AA counterpart it doesn't turn out well for the smaller school (see Georgia Southern v. Johnson C. Smith above).Ê In this case, we've got a mediocre to below average Division II team up against a very good 1-AA squad in Northwestern State.Ê Northwestern's only SU loss this year is to a Division 1-A team (14-7 to Louisiana Lafayette) and they won this matchup LY 59-0.Ê With two losses already to less than impressive competition (Minnesota-Manketo and Southeastern Oklahoma) not a lot of reason to think thinks will be any better this year.Ê We'll call it NW State by 48+, and it could be as ugly as LY.
