Eagles win no bonus handicapping points
for winning and covering against the Giants
in New York's first game with Tom Coughlin,
or against Minnesota, when the Vikings' running
backs, tight ends and right tackle were hurt.

Look at those Eagles wins, consider that
both Kurt Warner of New York and Daunte
Culpepper of Minnesota lost fumbles on
the Philly one-yard line, and the picture of
Philadelphia as a lucky team with a leaky
defense begins to come into view. The Lions
are riding an up curve because opponents
still think they are the Lions, and not a
team with good, new veterans with improved
team speed, and draft picks from the last
few seasons that are beginning to blossom.

Jacksonville at Tennessee
The bandwagon riders are gambling on
Jacksonville's defense, banking on an
''Under'' simply because the Jags have
allowed 10 and 6 points in their first two
games.

When Buffalo came back the next week
after being held to only 10 points by the
Jaguars, they scored 10 points again. So
Jacksonville wasn't doing anything unusual
there. Holding Denver to 6 points was nice,
but it's not like this defense is known for
stringing along great performances, and we
all know that Denver's offensive production
will be spotty this season in the wake of
losing veteran producers Portis, Sharpe and
McCafferey.

And we haven't even gotten to the Jags' offense.
The coordinator wants to average 27 points
per game this season and it's a good bet
that in their first AFC South game,
Jacksonville is about to pull out the entire
playbook against a defense that lost some key
people from last season and collapsed in the
fourth quarter last Sunday on this same field.
We have the Jags as a Best Bet in the newsletter
and now we like 'em to go OVER the total almost
by themselves! JACKSONVILLE, 34-20.
