Don't Shoot Dotel, There Are Better Targets
Shot? Right idea, wrong guy. It's not his fault he is out there getting tatooed and no one is even warming up to replace him. Macha is the guy who should be shot. If he didn't keep using Dotel as his closer, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. Any manager dumb enough to misuse Dotel as a closer is the one who should be shot. And for good measure, might as well shoot Billy Moneyball Beane too. He dosen't try to keep one of the top closers in baseball, Keith Fouke, because he wanted 6 Mil a year to stay with the A's, instead signing a setup man Arthur Rhodes, for half as much, to be his closer. When that didn't work, he trades for Dotel and we all know what a bad move that was. Just based on today, Texas pulls within 2 games of the A's instead of being 4 games back, all because Billy Beane didn't want to pay Fouke 3 Mil more than Arthur Rhodes and my SL, Col, A's three team parley is history.Last edited by thesandman; 09-23-2004, 07:30 PM.Comment
