Thursday Night MAC Game of the Year tonight between Akron and Kent State and we are all over Akron plus the points. This team has been beat up through it's first 3 games so this play will come as a surprise to most of our premium clients, but be ready for a breakthrough tonight at Dix Stadium. Kent State has been equally bad, with their sole victory being over Division I-AA Liberty. Akron has won 7 out of the last 9 meetings between the two teams, despite losing by a fg last season. QB Frye for the Zips is poised for a breakout game after a disappointing start to the season and his worst game of his career last Saturday against Virginia. The Akron defense played well against the weaker opponent Middle Tennessee State, so their is some hope of them stopping Kent State in their tracks tonight. In that game they allowed only 64 yards on the ground, had 4 sacks, and forced 3 turnovers. They have been vulnerable against the run in their other two games, but Kent State is more of a passing team. Against Rutgers they had only 139 yards with QB Josh Cribbs as the leading ground-gainer. I think Frye wins the battle of the QB as neither team gets a whole lot going on the ground. This game stays close with Kent not winning by more than 3 or 4 points.
4 units on Miami -29
The backfield combination of Frank Gore and Tyrone Moss will give the Houston Cougars plenty of headaches tonight as they will just roll all over them. Moss has 5.7 ypc and Gore matches it with 5.0 ypc of his own. Brock Berlin has picked up his game to compliment the ground attack, completing 60% of his passes and throwing for a pair of TDs. Against this terrible Houston defense, plan on seeing plenty of Miami touchdown celebrations. The Hurricane defense tears opposing offenses down like a hurricane as they have only allowed opponents to score 5.0 points per game. The unit is allowing only 174 yards per game, 54.5 yards rushing (1.4 yards per carry). The Miami defense has caused 7 turnovers in their 2 games, mostly due to their 28 tackles for loss and 9 sacks disrupting offenses so severly. You could go on and on about this defense, who was replacing plenty of NFL draft picks from a year ago, but as always Miami replaced talent with talent. Anthony Evans is the offense for Houston and he will hit the brick wall tonight against Miami. Don't expect another 282 yards on the ground for him and QB Kevin Kolb won't throw for 278 of his own. He has been sacked 16 times this season, so expect that jersey of his to be covered in grass stains early in this game. The two backs from Miami will roll over this defense that is allowing 5.0 yards per carry against weak teams. This is a blowout of epic proportions tonight in Houston.
