    ==============================================
    MY RANKING OF THE NEWSLETTERS

    1. THE GOLD SHEET LATE UPDATE $10 (GIVES NO PLAYS)
In my opinion this is the most valuable piece of information you will have as a weapon at your disposal. This newsletter is for serious handicappers who are ready to take full advantage knowing the latest information including key player changes, major injuries, coaches' game plans and strategies, team morale and probable intensity, reasons for sudden line moves during the week, and potential weather problems. Also the gold sheet handicappers point out situations worth noting before you make any decisions.

    2. THE STEAM SHEET $10
For those of you who will be playing selections from the Newsletters look no further the the Steam Sheet. As many of you know this newsletters is put out by Tom Scott a 26 year veteran of professional handicapping, who has been a consistent winner. In the 26 football seasons, he has made a profit for his clients 23 times. You don't get any more consistent than that. This sheet has consistently been over 60% in winners and only offers client 4-5 plays per week. Especially strong in college football which is the staffs specialty.

    3. CONFIDENTIAL KICK-OFF BY GOLD SHEET $15
DO NOT LET THEIR DISMAL 0-5 START SWAY YOU AWAY FROM THIS MONSTER. The Gold Sheet handicapping staff decides on the FIVE TOP PLAYS off the early line based on information from their national network of scouts looking at each game on the board. With in-depth analysis, the reasons why these teams have been selected are thoroughly defined. Last year CKO swept the sheet on 3 different occassions while also going 4-1 on four other occassion. To be quite hoest I have never observed anything close to an 0-5 last year. It should also be noted that this selections are often the ones released as their Saturday service selections.

    4. THE RED SHEET FROM POINTWISE $10
Unfortunately for use this newsletter only runs 14 weeks. However this newsletter also produceds consistent winners from the folks at Pointwise. This newsletter is released each Tuesday night. One one point this sheet used to be the number one late week premium service in the land, but has since lost a little steam. Of note, these plays wound up the '03 Season on a 9-1 Run!

    5. THE SPORTS MEMORANDUM $8
Wow what can you say about a newsletter that includes the likes of Brent Crow of Alatexsports; Rob Veno; Teddy ****** of Whocovers.com; Tim Trushel among many others. In fact, Brent give out his top newsletter selection in this newsletter and give extensive analysis as to his reason for the selection. The newsletter ****** almost every angle on the selected games and offers its readers interesting viewpoints on their selected games. The sheet also provides interesting article on sports gambling as well as team power ratings and other useful information. Its only downfall is it is 17 pages and take a very long time to read.

    6. THE SPORTS REPORTER MID-WEEK ALERT $10
This is the late report by sports reporter released every Friday prior the the weekend games. This newsletter has produced consistent winners on a weekly basis. Of course you will also get in-depth analysis on all of the selected games by the Sports Reporter Staff.

    7. THE GOLD SHEET $7
Ahhh yes...still considered the best by its loyal fans. But some asked now...what happened to the Gold Sheet? Its' still a very valuable resource for those looking for tons of information but they are very shaky on their plays. I like the fact they pay particular attention to injuries and other intanglible that the other sheets fail to mention. So I always use this as a very nice resource for "information but nothing less." I would not recommend just playing these selections.

    8. NORTHCOASTS POWERSWEEP $7
WOW...Powersweep so low on my pecking order. Well there is a reason for that. Northcoast has really went to shit. I think it all happened when Phile Steele affiliated himself with sportsbooks so now makes a profit from our losses. Specifically look at his affiliation with Royal sportsbook. Clients receive as their bonus a free 40% play on a Northcoast play, as well as credits to use at the Northcoast store. However, he still needs a following and he keeps it with one selection in this Newsletter which is UNDERDOG PLAY OF THE WEEK. Very solid record on this selection. Phil used to be considered that master of College football, but strangly hes has perfomed better the last two seaosns in the NFL. I said performed "bettor" but he still sucks! The only reason I rated this where I do, is because of the excellent matchup analysis dedicated to each weeks games.

    9. THE GREEN SHEET $7
This is a new addition to the package this year. Nelly Sports line has been around for the past 14 years so they have been a staple in the business. They have only had 3 losing seasons since their inception. Their Newsletter features systems, trends, statistics and commentary on each week's schedule and provides selections rated 5* (highest) to 1* (lowest). Last season our top selection each week, They provide sometimes interesting and other time basic analysis to their selections, but nothing really set this one apart from the flagship newsletters. Nevertheless their 5* plays went 17-5-1 on the season last year.

    10. NORTHCOASTS POWERPLAYS $7
Well I am sure you can see from the above description on Powersweep how I feel about Northcoast as a whole, however I cannot argue with the success this Newsletters seems to have year after year. The concept of this newsletter is quite simple, Phil uses “special power ratings” and feeds the matchups into his “supercomputer” which spits out the final outcome. Phil then explains why he either agree or disagrees with the computers forecast. It is an easy read, and goes on incredible runs, but given the fact it cannot forecast injuries, weather and other intangibles, its usefulness is in question. Phil admits he only gives 25%-30% weight to his analysis.

    11. PLAYBOOK BY MARK LAWRANCE $8
The only reason this sheet is low on my list is because I'm not a big fan of trends. However, I cannot argue with his success. Last year He went on an unbelievable run on his top rated 5* selections. He was close to 80% on his top rated selections. All in all a high quality newsletter but not the greatest information sheet. Gives some really wacky trends which are fun to read. He’s really struggling thus far this year so hopefully he can rebound.

    12. WINNINGPOINTS $7
If you exclusively bet “JUST” the NFL this might be the first newsletter you might to want to take a look at and for some reason I personally love this newsletter! I think its because of the substantial analysis they provide to support their top rated selections, which consistently perform at a very nice winning percentage. Well lets put it this way, they have been in business for 34 years and are located in NYC, home to the tougest critics. In my opinion its a very nice prodcut, but pay little attention to their "total selections" and "recommended plays."

    13. POINTWISE COLLEGIATE & PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PROPHECY $6
Well it comes out on Monday, which is nice and helps us get an early jump on our games. Many people use this sheet and this sheet only as it does have a tremendous amount of imformation contained in it if you can read the small font they use. NOTE: this sheet is very streaky in its sucess against the spread. I tracked them last year and they went on unbelievable runs, unfortunaly on both sides. I a two week span this newsletter managed to go 16-3; but the following two weeks it went 4-11; then about even. Catch my drift here.

    14. THE SPORTS REPORTER $7
One of the nicer features of this newsletter is that "most" of their newsletter selections are the very same plays on their 900# service in fact every selection but one this week was a "service" play. Their only problem is they are consistently "even steven" so they will not lose you much money if you follow them, but you will also not win alot. Their “best bet” selections are very strong but I would certainly not recommend playing anything else. Sometime they make such a strong case you feel compelled to pull the trigger after reading their reason why but again, be wary of their selections other then best bets.

    15. THE GOLD SHEET EXTRA $10
Ummm hmmmm.....Ahhhhh shit i don't have much to say about this one. Considered to be the perfect partner for our weekly Gold Sheet and source of the much-discussed Technical Plays of the Week! Well if you like tends again you will like this sheet, but is totally a hit or miss proposition if you follow their plays. Twice last year they were 5-0, 3 times 0-5, and most of the time 3-2 or 2-3. I pretty much take a glance at it. I purchased the sheet as many out there are trends players or bettors, so its not much use to a vlaue bettor like me.

OK GUYS...AGAIN LET ME HEAR WHICH 2 OR 3 YOU MIGHT WANT TO SEE THIS WEEK. ILL DECIDE BY CONSENSUS TOMORROW NIGHT. IF YOUR INTERESTED IN THE SERVICE SEE MY ADD IN THE BILLBAORD SECTION.

Have you ever analyzed the records of the teams most frequently picked by each newsletter every week? I think others have posted here that it makes sense to fade teams which are released frequently by services on consensus reports. There have been claims made that services are either owned or fronted by sportsbooks and if services can sway the public toward a side opposite which they are receiving lopsided action they are able to score big for the books by duping the public to take the wrong side.

I wouldn't be surprised if the newsletters try the same technique with several of them offering up large plays on the same teams. Especially since these newsletters are so easily accessible on various forums.

Interesting question and yes I always do. I have stated to my clients and those who read them, that when a majority of the newsletters pick a game (not necessary a team) but a game and have it as their top play then it is a fade or a no play. This is no different then a consensus fade when they all have top plays on the same side.

This past week two games fit into that trend and both were losers. NC State & Oregon State.

However its important to keep in mind that not all the services that put out newsletters are affiliated with a sportsbook. I tried to get a few private sheets this year that do not tout sportsbooks.

                              Nelly's Green Sheet

                              Volume XV Issue 4 Week of September 20 - September 27, 2004

                              RATING 5 KEY BLOWOUT WIN
                              TOP DOG PHONE PLAY HITS
COLLEGE SELECTIONS 14-7 ON THE SEASON!
COMPUTER SLAM 3-0, 116-13 COMBINED SCORE!

We rank our Key Selections in order of preference, grading them on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being a top selection.

Lines listed are as of early in the week and could be considerably different by game time. For games that are not key selections, the farther our
difference from the line, the stronger the opinion. Remember to stay conservative because it is a long season.

After a slow start to the season our top newsletter selection came through with a huge blowout win with Arizona State last week. The Sun Devils smashed Iowa as a slight favorite, winning 44-7 for an easy rating 5 winner. Both rating 3 plays hit in college and the top NFL play came through as well for another solid edition of the Green Sheet.

                              .
                              Between the Lines...
Week two of the NFL season brought several exciting games but unfortunately several significant injuries. We will see some fresh QBs
starting next week, highlighted by Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh.
Opening against the Ravens and Dolphins defenses will not be kind to the stats but we'lll see what the kid can do.
The Saints were dealt a major blow
with RB McAllister hurting an ankle early. In addition to Maddox out for
Pittsburgh, QBs Brunell and Brees also were forced from games with
injuries. All three teams losing their QB lost on Sunday. The Bears came
through with a huge win but lost defensive leader Mike Brown for the
season, who had returned a fumble for TD earlier in the game. Rookie TE
Kellen Winslow will miss time with a leg injury. It's early but depth will play a
                              big role as always.

After combining for 21 wins all of last season, Atlanta, Detroit, Jacksonville, and the New York Jets are each 2-0. The Jaguars remarkably have done so while scoring just 20 points in two games, that total ties for the second fewest points in the league, tied with 0-2 Miami, and 0-2 Buffalo, and ahead of 0-2 Tampa Bay with just 16 points. Kansas City has scored 41 points and San Francisco has scored 46 points. Both are also 0-2. Next week we will be guaranteed at least one 0-3 team as the Chiefs team that went 13-3 last year will have the opportunity to already match the loss total as they host the winless Texans.

Two huge SEC games went down to the wire with the home team emerging victorious in both games. Tennessee required some questionable clockwork to setup the winning kick and Auburn ended the LSU winning streak that Oregon State probably should have done in week one. Several highly ranked teams had major struggles last week. West Virginia squeaked by Maryland and Ohio State needed major turnover help to take out NC State after being badly outgained. Michigan again looked lethargic on offense and Iowa and Georgia Tech suffered bad losses.

                              COLLEGE KEY SELECTIONS

VIRGINIA TECH (-7) over NC State Rating: 5

IOWA (+12') over Michigan Rating: 4

BOSTON COLLEGE (+1) over Wake Rating: 3

PURDUE (-20) over Illinois Rating: 3

VANDY (+7) over Navy Rating: 2

TEXAS TECH (-5') over Kansas Rating: 2

STANFORD (+23) over USC Rating: 1

                              NFL KEY SELECTIONS

MIAMI (-1) over Pittsburgh Rating: 4

PHILADELPHIA (-) over Detroit Rating: 3
KANSAS CITY(-9') over Houston Rating: 2

SEATTLE (-11) over San Francisco Rating: 2

OAKLAND (-3) over Tampa Bay Rating: 1
