2* UNDER Philadelphia/Cincinnati (Lidle vs Acevedo)
Corey Lidle has been hot of late with a 1.57 ERA last 3 starts, and an even more impressive 0.739 WHIP. He should have success today against a Cincinnati team that simply is horrible offensively at .251 on the season and .247 here at home. They are hitting just .241 over their last 7 games with the UNDER going 2-4-1. Philadelphia’s defense has looked a bit sluggish of late as they have allowed an average 5 runs per game last five games, but prior to those five games they had allowed 10 total runs over their prior six. Acevedo has been better at home this season, and in two starts against Philadelphia this season he has seen both games stay UNDER. This one will as well.
2* UNDER NY Yankees/Kansas City (Mussina vs. Greinke)
After the Yankees allowed 17 runs yesterday in a game that had a total 25 runs scored we are looking UNDER in this one. New York has tended to follow-up blowout losses with an UNDER, and we will use recent history to show it. A few weeks ago the Yankees were beaten 22-0, a few days later it was a 7-0 loss, and then last week they lost 14-8. Each of these losses was followed up with an UNDER where they held their opponent to 3 or less runs, and we expect much the same here with KC. Mussina has been solid of late with a 3.38 ERA and 0.844 WHIP last 3 starts, and his counterpart Greinke has been equally impressive with a 3.50 ERA and 1.111 WHIP last 3 starts. The Yankees are 2-10 UNDER revenging a loss where they were minus 150 or more favorites, 1-5 UNDER revenging a loss where their opponent scored 12 or more runs, and they are 1-15 UNDER when their bullpen has an ERA of 7.00 or higher over their last 5 games. This one should stay low!
2* LOS ANGELES over San Digeo (Lima over Germano)
Jose Lima’s control has been solid this season as indicated by his 1.172 WHIP this season through 134 innings pitched. In 21 starts, he has allowed just 23 walks, and that alone is an impressive feat in this day and age. He is a dominant 12-1 at home this season, and he certainly has the stuff to quiet these red-hot Padres. San Diego has scored 24 runs last two games (15 and 9 respectively), but they are just 14-35 after scoring 9 or more runs last game and 2-11 after 6 or more consecutive OVERs. They are also just 8-28 on the road in September games last couple seasons. LA is a perfect 8-0 this season versus a starter whose ERA is 6.70 or worse, and with that we will side with the Dodgers to make up for their loss last night.
