The Texans are tired of having the moniker “Expansion Team” mentioned when people are talking about them. The franchise can only do one thing to drop that preface and that is to win. They’re in their 3rd season of existence and it’s time to make some strides towards respectability.

David Carr has 1000 yard man Domanick Davis behind him as well as Andre Johnson to throw to. The former Hurricane is approaching breakout status after catching more than 60 balls last season for nearly 980 yards. Houston covered 6 of their last 7 games at Reliant last season including SU wins over Atlanta, Jacksonville and Carolina.

Defensively this team was also shored up some defensively after ranking 31st last season in rush, pass and total “D”. They’re extremely high on LB Jason Babin out of Western Michigan who is drawing comparisons to another backer that Dom Capers coached in Carolina named Kevin Greene.

While the Texans are hoping to stride forward the Chargers are sliding the wrong way and cleaned house on offense basically bringing back an OL here and there and QB Brees along with of course Tomlinson. The SD defense allowed the 2nd most points in the NFL last season and in their road openers they’re 7-14 SU, 6-13-2 ATS.

Title: NFL Week 1 Game of the Week
Reason: Just when it looks like Jim Haslett's going to turn things around, he doesn't. After a promising start in New orleans, Haslett has settled into mediocrity. That's something Seattle fans were used to, until Mike Holm gren turned the corner with this team last season, leading them to their first 10 win season since 1986 and a playoff appearance. Those 10 wins included the season opening 27-10 win over Haslett's Saints. In fact, Seattle has won the last 2 in this series. Mike Holmgren is a perfect 4-0 against New Orleans in his career, including 2-0 since taking over the Seahawks while Jim Haslett is 0-2 versus Seattle all-time. The one downfall Seattle had last year was poor road play, but that has been the point of emphasis for this team since camp opened, something they worked on and something they stressed all pre-season, winning both road games convincingly. In fact, Seattle was one of the most dominant teams in the pre-season WHILE THEIR STARTERS were in the game, out-scoring opponents near 2 to 1 and we'll look for that to spill over into the teams season opener. Reason: It's not that the 9ers haven't been a road dog of late, they have. In fact they are a perfect 4-0 as home dogs dating back to 2001. Condsidering they host a team who's won just 1 of it's last 8 road games and are 2-5 L7 in this series, San Fran deserves a look right off the bat. They deserve a LONG look when you consider the Falcons have a new group of coaches and a brand new defensive scheme. In fact, this defense was anihilated in the pre-season, and getting right in a hostile environment on the road in an open aired grass stadium isn't going to help any. Yes, they have Vick, but he was anything but impressive in the pre-season, and in fact, VERY tantative after pulling up lame in an early scrimmage against the Titans. Add to that, 'Niners QB Tim Rattay may be the most under-rated pivot in the league and we have a VERY strong case to take the points. Take San Francisco

Reason: A lot of things point to Denver here. They are 9-1 L10 vs Division, 4-1 L5 as home chalk of a FG or less, 4-1 L5 season openers and 4-0 playing in the division with revenge. meanwhile, the Chiefs are 0-5 ATS L5 in this seires and 4-11 L11 as road dogs of a FG or less. But all that means nothing. The fact is DEFENSE has been a point of emphasis with the Cheifs all camp long after the total break down in the playoffs last season. Gunther Cunningham has ben brought in to shore it up and all signs point to the fact he has done a terrific job. In fact, this Chiefs STARTING defense, after getting embarrassed in the post season last year, allowed just 1 score through the 5 quarters in the pre-season when they played together, while the Chiefs STARTING offense put up near 60 points in the same time frame. With Denver starting a lot of new faces on the defensive side of the ball and the Chiefs being, well, the Chiefs on offense, we'll look for Kansas City to EXPLODE all over the Broncos and embarrass them in a season opening rout at Mile High on ESPN! Take Kansas City ... LARGE!
