NCAA
4* Virginia Wahoos -20.5 vs. UNC
3* Alabama Elephants -10.5 vs. Ole Miss
3* Fresno State +13 vs. the KSU Sproles
3* California Golden Hippies -33 vs. New Mex. St.
2* Utah Mormons -12.5 vs. Arizona Stoops
I usually don't like laying heavy points on the road in NCAA play but I can't find any convincing reasons to lay off or take the home dogs here. Kansas State showed nothing offensively last week vs. a marginal D1-AA team in w. Kentucky and the QB play was atrocious. KSU RB Darren Sproles is a great talent at 5'6" and 170 but I expect Pat Hill will have at least one spy that follows him everywhere and forces K State to throw. Fresno is a program that takes great pride in being Goliath slayers and I fully expect this one to come down to the wire, maybe a SU win in Manhattan for Fresno. This team is for real.
Ole Miss is in a similar bind offensively. The QB's that are attempting to replace Eli Manning may improve over time but it will take a while. This team was never very good on the SEC road, even when Manning was there and Shula has now had time to mold the Alabama team in his image. Tough night in Tuscaloosa for the Rebels, 'Bama by 20+ tonight.
Virginia may have a team that can compete for the National Championship. Al Groh has a amazingly fast and skillful D and possibly the best set of linebackers in the country. John Bunting at UNC is in real trouble and has little to no talent down in Chapel Hill. The University of Bill and Mary gave UNC fits last week and only a 2nd half comeback against a D1-AA school at home prevented an embarrasment in the opener. This is a great chance for UVA to open the home season and show the rest of the ACC that they are a team to be reckoned with. UVA can name the score here but let's say 49-13, UVA gets an easy home win.
Not sure that this is a much a vote for the Oregon Ducks as much as it is that they get a absolutely horrible team at Autzen Stadium in Indiana. This program is possibly the worst in D1A and certainly the worst in the Big 10. The Ducks should be able to throw over the top at will and cruise to a 35 point win on one of the strongest home fields in college football.
Finally, the Cal Bears get a real patsy at home in New Mexico State. Talentwise, they can name the score here and I do have a small concern regarding a backdoor cover when the scrubs come in late. Hopefully Jeff Tedford won't call off the dogs too early and the Bears can cruise to a 40+ point win in front of the home folks, where interest is on the rise from the locals who have been more interested in political rallies than sports in the past. Golden Bears in a walkover.
Good Luck to all in whatever you decide to play, back early tomorrow with NFL! I Love some totals tomorrow.
