Eager to lay small number with rejuvenated UCLA squad that reportedly has vastly-improved offensive chemistry
due to the upgraded staff changes. New Bruin o.c. & OL coach Tom Cable (former Idaho mentor) has instilled a
sense of toughness, while new WR (Dino Babers) & QB (Jim Svoboda) coaches have been positive additions
because of their attention to detail, all qualities lacking in LY’s discombobulated edition (ranked 110th nationally).
UCLA’s 6-3 jr. QB Olson, who felt responsible for LY’s 2nd-H collapse (Bruins lost final 5 games), has looked sharp,
focused and confident in recent scrimmages. And new, improved Olson will be strongly supported by a potent
ground attack, spearheaded by elusive soph RB Drew (585 YR LY) & now-healthy, bruising 6-2, 245 TB/FB White,
who’s sorely missed when he’s been unable to perform—Bruins 6-2 when he’s healthy, 0-5 when injured. Plus, big
bonus if UCLA’s speedy 6-3 WR Perry gains NCAA clearance. OSU’s smashmouth tactics unlikely to work consistently,
as aggressive Bruin defense able to put 8 in box, since new 6-2, RS frosh QB D. Woods has young corps of
WRs. And note, Bruins have covered 6 straight openers!
