The Athletics have won 10 of 11 averaging seven RPG during that
streak while the Blue Jays have lost seven of 11 with a team ERA of 6.51. Top flight starter Mark Mulder is 8-2 on the road with a 3.50 ERA and is 7-0 in the day with a 2.71 ERA and a .221 opponents' batting average. Oakland is 56-39 (+$605) against righthanders while Toronto is 17-22 (-$715) against lefthanders and they're facing one of the best in the business this afternoon.

College Football week 1
OKLAHOMA –32 over bg
Saturday 9/4/04 12 noon est
5*****BEST BET
The Sooners figure to come out blazing in this affair as they have waited and waited to get back on the field of play to atone for the late season demise that saw them lose their final two outings last year which were against Kan St ( 35-7 ) in the Big 12 Championship game and then lose 21-14 to LSU in the National Championship game.
Oklahoma is loaded again this season with last year's Heisman Trophy winning QB Jason White back and under center along with his favorite target in WR Mark Clayton, saying these Sooners are loaded again might just be an under statement when considering that they returned all eleven offensive starters along with seven defensive starters from last years team that finished with a 12-2 straight up and 7-7 ATS record.
The falcons of bowling green have performed well over the past three seasons in posting a mark of 28-9 straight up but only 18-16 ATS, the falcons do return nine starters to their offense and seven to a defense that has surprised more than a few teams over the past three years, however, bowling green must visit Norman with a new QB under center as triggerman Josh Harris has now gone on to the NFL.
If the Sooners had not finished on a bad note last year and if these falcons still had QB Josh Harris under center instead of having to break in a new QB on the road and if the media's “Talking heads” hadn’t talked of nothing else during the off season but USC and how good they were while forgetting about these Sooners…..bowling green might have had a chance at covering, but not now!
KEY STAT:
Oklahoma has won their past 13 straight home games and covered 8 of those 13 contests ATS over the past two years, last season the Sooners average home win was by a 26 point margin.
We backed these Sooners in three home games last season when they went against the likes of UCLA + 19, Okie St +15, and Texas A&M +31 and as those that were with us last season can attest to we posted a 3-0 straight up and ATS mark in those contests as Oklahoma outscored these three opponents by a 188 to 33 margin for an average game score of 63-11…or a 52 point win on average.
LSU –17.5 over ore st
Saturday 9/4/04 6 pm est
3***Play selection
This will be a “Statement Game” for the Tigers of LSU who are not happy about their number three ranking in the opening polls after winning the BCS Championship game last year, the pollsters decided to instead rank USC number one and in a strange twist of fate another Pac-10 team will pay for it when Oregon state visits Baton Rouge.
Originally Virginia Tech was scheduled to visit these Bayou kids but backed out when they realized that they would be taking on the two teams that split the 2003 National Championship in successive outings after facing USC in their first outing this year in the Black Coaches Classic, I suspect when the smoke clears that the beavers will wish that they had left well enough alone and not volunteered to take VT’s place!
Tiger HC Nick Saban has fashioned one heck of a program at LSU in just four short years and during this span has gone a phenomenal 39-13 straight up and an equally impressive 30-19 ATS, these Tigers returned 15 starters from last years 13-1 straight up and 11-2 ATS team including nine starters to a defense that could be argued as last years best in the country.
Meanwhile the visiting beavers are without departed star RB Stephen Jackson who has joined the NFL, but they did return a total of 12 starters from last seasons 8-5 straight up and 6-6 ATS team including 7 returning starters to their defense, however, the problem is that the beavers only returned two defensive linemen and thus will be out classed up front against these Bayou kids who returned all five RB’s from last seasons team that averaged 186 yards per game.
Add it all up and the bottom line is that LSU will control both lines of scrimmage in this contest as well as the game clock, the beavers might score 10 to 13 points if they are lucky while the Tigers figure to score in the mid thirties at least.
KEY STAT:
The home team here plays their best in front of the home crazies as evidenced by the Tigers 10 ****** in 12 tries when installed as a home favorite, meanwhile the visiting road team plays their worst away from home as evidenced by the beavers 3-7 straight up and ATS record when taking to the road over the last two seasons.
MEMPHIS +4 over miss
Saturday 9/4/04 7 pm est
3***Play selection
The rebels of ole miss hold virtually all of the technical edges in this match up over rival Memphis including the fact that the rebels have gone 8-1 straight up and 7-2 ATS against these Tigers in Memphis’s last 9 visits to Oxford.
However, the fact remains that this is a rivalry game as these two schools are only 90 miles apart and Memphis will have a boat load of confidence in this visit following last seasons huge 44-34 win as 7.5 point home doggies.
The rebels had departed Eli Manning last season and still lost as these Tigers managed to score 23 unanswered 4th quarter points to ice the contest 44-34 which effectively negated the four TD’s that Eli tossed.
Why is ole miss favored here by this many points when Manning is gone and the rebels have only four returning defensive starters going against a Memphis Tiger team that returned 17 starters overall and all eleven offensive starters from last season is anyone’s guess, but hey…why look a gift horse in the mouth?
KEY STAT:
When reviewing the final statistics from last season I came across a very interesting little tidbit, did you know that Memphis was the only team in the nation to out stat each and every opponent they faced last season enroute to a 9-4 straight up mark?
As a side note, ole miss has been over rated when playing at home as evidenced by their less than steller 10-15 ATS record as a home favorite while the Tigers of Memphis have won 6 of their last 8 season openers in straight up fashion.
HOUSTON –3.5 over rice
Sunday 9/5/04 5 pm est
3***Play selection
Since the Houston Texans are not using Reliant stadium this particular Sunday, the college football schedulers decided to let these two rivals use it and thus create a neutral setting for this contest and especially since the Cougars of Houston have won 10 of the last 14 head-to-head meetings straight up and covered 9 of the 14 contests ATS.
This line appears to be quite low when considering that Houston has dominated this series the past two years and just last season blew out rice to the tune of a 48-14 spanking as 4.5 home favorites in Cougar HC Art Briles debut.
Both teams returned a good many starters as Houston has 17 returning starters to rice’s 15 returning starters and both teams have last seasons QB’s under center, in the big scheme of things however, isn’t it logical that if Houston won the last two meetings by an average of 24 points and returned more starters including last seasons starting QB Kevin Kolb who had 25 TD’s to only 6 picks on the year….that we can expect the same results?
KEY STAT:
The Cougars have the ability to score over land or thru the air as they averaged 217 yards rushing and 240 yards passing, meanwhile, the owls of rice are completely one dimensional with their rushing attack and will find catching up in the point wars a hard thing to do against the potent Houston offense.
gl to all today, gotta come back from a rough thurs ...nonigoji
