Eagles/Steelers tonite

Just a note of caution for those of you considering the Eagles tonite. Westbrook, if he plays at all, will see very limited action. Reid plans on playing his backup RB's for the majority of the game.
He is VERY paranoid of getting any of his main guys injured.

Thursday NFL Preseason

YTD Record, 12-7/+11.6 Units

Going into the third preseason game, both teams seem to have concerns as they approach the regular season. Philadelphia is a team that is pointing toward a Super Bowl with high expectations after failure the previous three seasons in the NFC Playoffs. Adding Terrell Owens was a big plus after very thin years at the WR position. The Eagles OVER/UNDER total on season wins opened at 11 this year, which I bought UNDER when the number opened and discussed in a previous post.
The Eagles have been hit extremely hard in the injury department this year on top of losing most of their defensive backfield during the offseason. Andy Reid has said that his starters will play into the third quarter tonight but after losing Staley to Pittsburgh and Buckhalter for the season to injury, there is much concern about the lack of depth at the RB position. Westbrook will not play tonight according to the coach so the Philly offense is going in to this game with only a passing game that is worth much. Defensively, the Eagles will rest at least four starters and are already thin heading into tonight's game.
Pittsburgh plans to play their starters late into the first half but the amount of time will be determined by amount of plays, not the clock. The Steelers have shown some defensive weakness so far this year giving up 28 to an improved Detroit offense and even though they held Houston to 3 points last week, the Texans are not exactly a powerhouse scoring machine. The Pitt offense has shown better offensive line play allowing the QB's to look downfield and hit open recievers. Staley has looked good at RB and is likely looking forward to his return to Lincoln Financial Field tonight. I expect the Steelers to be able to move the ball on a decimated Eagle defense tonight and with Philly looking at extended time for McNabb and company, not to mention more passing than running for Philadelphia, I am looking at the OVER 38 as the best play in this matchup. Passing slows the clock and both teams should move the ball reasonably well. Two solid kickers will also put some points on the board. The play is a 3* selection on OVER 38.
My one concern with this total is that both teams meet again on November 7th in the regular season at Pittsburgh. It is generally accepted that coaches play these games closer to the vest and more conservatively with a matchup coming down the road. I still feel this total is artificially low and am looking at a game closer to 44 points.
