        SHARK'S PICKS

        MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
        Tuesday, August 24th

        ARIZONA at PITTSBURGH
        ARI E GONZALEZ -R (0-6, 9.96 ERA) vs PIT O PEREZ -L (8-6, 2.90 ERA)
Gonzalez remains winless on the season, going 0-6 with a 9.96 ERA in six starts. He has allowed 32 runs on 47 hits with 17 K's, 11 walks and 11 homers in 28.0 innings. He was recalled from Tucson of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) on July 24th where he went 5-5 with a 4.88 ERA. He has seemed to pitch better in his last two outings, though his turn was skipped in the rotation when the D-Backs had an off day last week. In his last outing he allowed four runs on eight hits with three K's, a walk and a homer in 5.1 innings in a 4-3 loss versus the Mets in New York. Perez is 8-6 with a 2.90 ERA in 23 starts and the Pirates are 14-9 in those games. He has allowed 51 runs on 102 hits with 175 K's, 60 walks and 14 homers in 143.0 innings of work. In his last start, Perez was on his way to pitching his third complete game of the year when a thunderstorm sent him to the locker room in the eighth inning. He lost the win when Reggie Sanders hit a ninth-inning homer off Jose Mesa, but the Bucs battled back for a 3-2 victory over the Cards in the 10th. He had 10 K's in that game, which was his sixth double-digit strikeout performance since June 26th and his 11.01 strikeouts per nine innings leads the Majors'.
        SELECTION: PITTSBURGH -1½ -140

        COLORADO at ATLANTA
        COL S ESTES -L (13-5, 5.76 ERA) vs ATL P BYRD -R (4-4, 4.11 ERA)
Estes comes in 13-5 with a 5.76 ERA in 26 starts and the Rockies are 16-10 in those games. He has allowed 100 runs on 168 hits with 89 K's, 80 walks and 21 homers in 153.0 innings of work. In his last outing he allowed six runs on 10 hits with four K's, six walks and two homers in 5.0 innings and he took the loss in a 10-3 home loss to the Mets. The loss broke a season-high four-game winning streak for Estes, whose last loss before that game came on June 29th versus the Brewers. Byrd is 4-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 11 starts and he has been an adequate fifth starter for the Braves since returning from Tommy John surgery. He has allowed 34 runs on 63 hits with 44 K's, 11 walks and 12 homers over 65.2 innings of work. Last time out he gave up five runs on six hits with 5 K's, two walks and two homers in 5.1 innings and he took a no-decision in a 6-5 win at San Diego. His location hasn't been that sharp after the fourth inning in his past four starts and he has allowed seven home runs in his past 20.0 innings pitched.
        SELECTION: COLORADO +170

The line on San Diego is nowhere near -112. I'm seeing -135 all the way to -145.
