                Guaranteed Pick: Big Al Mcmordie
Game: Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots Aug 13 2004 8:00PM
                Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles
Reason: At 8:00 pm, on Friday, our Preseason Game of the Year is on the Philadelphia Eagles, who have been installed as a 3.5-point underdog. The Eagles fall into 4 systems of mine that are 23-8, 40-26, 37-19, and 23-11. Let's take a look at the 23-11 ATS system. What we want to do is play on any team in Game 1 of the Preseason that lost as a favorite in the previous year's Playoffs, provided they are not favored by more than 2 points. Last year, the Eagles were upset at home by Carolina, while New England went on to win the Super Bowl. The Eagles have stewed all offseason over that loss, so Philly will have the motivational edge on Friday. Also, Super Bowl champs are a poor 26-40 ATS in the Preseason, as they tend to be overvalued, as well as under-motivated. Take Philadelphia as our Preseason Game of the Year. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. And don't miss any of my other Preseason winners that are available right now.

                            Friday, August 13

                            Philadelphia at New England

Philadelphia coach Andy Reid said Thursday that his first-team offense and defense would play about a quarter and a half in tonight’s game.

Starting quarterback Donovan McNabb will be replaced in the second quarter by veteran Jeff Blake, with rookie Andy Hall scheduled to take most of the second half snaps. Hall is to get an extended look in the preseason as backup quarterback Koy Detmer is slated to have arthroscopicknee surgery.

The Birds will be without injured offensive lineman Jermane Mayberry tonight. Other injured Philadelphia players who will not go this evening include safety Brian Dawkins, defensive end Jerome McDougle and defensive tackle Darwin Walker.

New England starting quarterback Tom Brady is expected to play very little tonight, possibly just one series. The plan is to give Rohan Davey plenty of snaps as the former LSU passer could see as much as three quarters of action.

With Jim Miller out with a shoulder injury, Davey’s primary competition for the backup quarterback spot is coming from rookie Kliff Kingsbury, the former Texas Tech record-setter. He is set to finish up tonight’s game.

The defending world champs will be without a pair of starting offensive linemen as Matt Light and Tom Asworth are both injured.

Head coach Bill Belichick has indicated that receiver Troy Brown will take some snaps in the defensive backfield this evening.

                            Game Trends

New England is 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS the past six preseason meetings in the series.

In preseason action, Philly is 4-1 ATS on the road and as an underdog the last three years.

Since 1993, New England is 15-6 ATS when hosting preseason foes, and is 15-5 ATS as a favorite in exhibition play.

                            Kansas City at NYG

Kansas City coach Dick Vermeil has said his offensive starters would play the first quarter tonight. They might go longer if they are unable to move the football in that opening period according to the coach.

Starting quarterback Trent Green will play the first quarter and will be followed by Todd Collins, who is expected to play into the second half. Kirk Farmer will follow and Vermeil indicated that he’d like to see rookie Casey Clausen get some snaps in the fourth quarter.

Receivers Johnnie Morton and Eddie Kennison are nursing injuries and are not expected to play. Dante Hall will play, but will not return kicks.

The Kansas City starters on defense may play into the second quarter.

First-year New York coach Tom Coughlin announced this week Kurt Warner will start at quarterback and play into the second quarter. Warner will then be replaced by top draft pick Eli Manning.

Coughlin intends to keep some of his starters in while Manning plays. Fourth-year pro Jesse Palmer will quarterback in the fourth quarter.

New York has been besieged with injuries in camp. Tight end Jeremy Shockey, receiver Tim Carter and linebacker Carlos Emmons will not play tonight.

                            Game Trends

Kansas City has stayed under in 13 of 20 road affairs since 1993 in preseason action.

New York is 5-14 ATS at home since 1993 in the preseason, and 4-16 as a favorite in that stretch, including 0-4 as a home chalk.

                            NYJ at New Orleans

The Fly Boys intend to play starting quarterback Chad Pennington for a series or two tonight and then turn things over to Brooks Bollinger while the first-team offensive line is still on the field.

The second-year pro Bollinger has been shaky in camp and coach Herman Edwards wants him to gain some confidence. Bollinger will see extended action tonight with last year’s Canadian Football League MVP, Ricky Ray, finishing things up.

New York is experimenting with a more up-tempo offense in camp and Edwards indicated that his team could work on its two-minute-drill offense at times this evening.

Running back Curtis Martin will start, but other starters who are listed as questionable due to injury include receiver Santana Moss, linebacker Eric Barton and safeties Jon McGraw and Reggie Tongue.

New Orleans will not play No. 1 quarterback Aaron Brooks, who has a strained quadriceps. Backup Todd Bouman will start, as he will split time with J.T. O’Sullivan.

Coach Jim Haslett has said his starters will only play one quarter before giving way to the reserves.

Starting linebacker Cie Grant and free safety Tebucky Jones are out with injuries.

                            Game Trends

New Orleans has covered both previous preseason battles with New York.

In preseason play the past three years, New York is 4-1 ATS on the road and as an underdog.

New York is 14-8 ATS on the preseason road since 1993, while New Orleans is 6-13 ATS at home in that span.

*Montreal (+180) vs. Houston (Rauch vs. Clemens)

Yes, it's Roger Clemens. But at +180 I'll take a flyer on a hot Montreal club at home. The Expos have won five straight and 12 of their last 15 games at home. The Expos are scoring 4.6 runs per game over their last seven. Over the same span, the Astros have put up just 3.3 runs per game. You'd expect Roger Clemens to be near perfect when he faces team he is supposed to crush. However, Clemens is 3-8 (-13.2 Units) against the money line in road games as a favorite of -175 to -250 over the last 3 seasons. Houston can play down to their competition. The Astros are 5-10 (-15.1 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with a team batting average of .250 or worse this season.
The Expos like the warm month of August. They are 22-8 (+13.4 Units) against the money line in home games in August games over the last 3 seasons. One unit on the big dog, Montreal.

                                8-13-04- Orioles v. Blue Jays

                                Winner: Orioles

REASON: Simply put, we are playing the streak. Baltimore is hot and are now putting forth a valiant effort for the Wild Card. Baltimore is hitting .313 against right handers the past 10 games. Orioles have also won the last 5 Ponson starts. They took 2 out of 3 from the Angels, swept the Rangers and Mariners. The Jays even at home will not be the team to stop a streaking Baltimore crew. Bautista has been slipping as of late with a 7.11 ERA in his last 3. The over is 6-2-1 in Bautista's last 8. Runs will be scored on both sides no doubt about it. But when the smoke clears the team with momentum will come out on top. Take the Orioles
