    Big Al

How can you guys bash Big Al when you don't even know how he has been doing. Well, I have been playing Big Al's games and sure he doesn't win every game but he sure as hell wins more than he losses. I played Ariz tonight and if it loses it loses, and Ill still be up for the week, month and season due to Big Al. As far as some of you thinking that it is a marketing scheme, why would he put out a game that he doesn't think would win, all his picks are guaranteed picks, you only pay if he wins. So if Ariz losses tonight he makes no money. Period.

          Bluesters,

People will bash if a service plays a big fav and they'll bash when they take a dog. Mostly though, people bash when the pick is different from their own because they don't have confidence in it. Everyday, on many different forums, you'll see people saying "goodbye" for the rest of the baseball season because they have lost all their money. These are people who follow handicappers and stats.

My advice: find out what "everyone" is taking and go the opposite way--especially in baseball. Finding out will be something you have to do on your own. There are many different ways to do it.

The sermon has ended--go in peace.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I am not criticizing the pick but as a GOY, the most likely game to win out of all the thousands played and considering the ways the teams are playing, it makes me suspect of the motivation here.
I am not playing the game at all because I have got my money's worth betting against Arizona of late and don't want to press my luck.
I will be watching to see what happens here though-I would assume a blowout or easy victory at least by Zona if it is the one and only GOY given out by Al.

ps I also wonder why Big Al got kicked off or left the NorthCoast Community Line a few years ago.

as much as I like you new avitar, I have to completely disagree with your statement about betting baseball. unlike football and basketball where statistics are not as relevant due to point spreads, betting baseball is all about statistics. you must pick the winner (I don't bet run lines). first of all, pitchers, their records, and whether they're lefties or righties, is probably the most important aspect of betting a baseball game. less importance should be put of pitcher's career records vs specific teams unless that pitcher has faced that team this year. if a team in their last 10 games is hitting .280, has gotten quality innings fromn its starters and is 7-3 over those last 10 games, they've got an advantage over the team who's hitting .230, bullpen has been getting excessive work and are 3-7 over last 10. again, this assumption is valid only for a game where you determine that the pitching is a wash. futhermore, I have learned that the most relevant stat in baseball is a teams record vs left handed and right handed pitching.

the whole contrarian angle may work in football and basketball, but don't base all of your handicapping on the contrarian angle because in the long run, if you don't look at stats in baseball, you will lose.

                      friday,

well, then we'll just agree to disagree. Following pitchers--especially--is a sure way to lose. The lines are set based on how Vegas thinks the public will pick. The public picks games based on stats. Most online books have stats and matchups right on their website, hoping you will use them. They set all kinds of traps for the bettors who invariably will play mostly favs. In the end, they will lose.

Contrarian is the way to go in ALL sports. I'm glad more people don't do it. Make better lines for me.:D

I could and should kick myself in the ass . I had the Dodgers as the pick all day then I started seeing the posts of Big Al GOY on Arizona it's not over but boy that looks great right now in the top of the 7th with the Dodgers leading 9-2 I didn't play Arizona cause I couldn't believe but it created enough doubt that I didn't play the Dodgers either OW OW OW I am KICKING my ASS

This game simply validates what my impression has been of Big Al for the past 5 or ten years, lots of hype and a few testimonials but thats it.
Even his reasoning his dumb:key players are back today for Arizona for the first time, like that automatically in itself is going to bring on a huge winning streak on the very first day.
For my money he should change his name to Big Al Mc"Moron" if he really felt this game among the thousands he could have chosen should be the GOY, or if he did it to simply try to make waves and get some to sign up, then the name would be Big Al Mc "Scammer."
Out of all of the years I have followed handicappers, this GOY ranks right up there with the worst not only because of the outcome but because of the reasoning(or lack of ) on which it was based.

                              That reminds me Savage1

As you might know Big Al is a lawyer.....A few years ago he threatened to sue the Sports Monitor, a consensus service, for posting his name on the site. He claimed it was a copyright infringement. Sports Monitor agreed not post his name and the following week there was a new service on the site called "Big Smell"

Interestingly "Big Smell's" picks looked a lot like Big Al's....

I know one thing: if Big Al is a lawyer, I hope he uses better logic in court in defending his clients than he did with his unspeakable awful and illogical and most importantly unwarranted GOY on Arizona tonight.
