            MASTERBETS

Phillies (Milton) @ Mets (Trachsel): Bet the Mets to win at -115.

Our free baseball pick is back by popular demand. We suspended them for a while because it seemed counter-productive to give away 80% winning picks for nothing. Then we realized we were just being selfish.

The Phillies have the talent to win their division, but clearly as long as Bowa is their manager it isn't going to happen. They lack continuity, and their strating pitching has been very inconsistent. Somehow Milton managed 11 wins in the first half of the season, yet this flatter him to no end. One look at his ERA supports that argument. Expect a correction in the second half. There is just no way that this guy can win 20 on the year, surely? At least not with an ERA of 4.7+

Trachsel is very tough at Shea, and has dominated the Phillies this season. He did that on the road, and like we said he is even better at home. This looks like a high-value line on the Mets, who play the Phillies hard every time they meet. There is little to choose between the two on any given day, but the edge in starting pitching and home-field advantage (this time it counts), lean us in the direction of the Mets.

                Baltimore @Tampa Bay6:05pm EST
                Play On:Orioles (Bedard)

Call us crazy, but if you take away the 23-6 unbelievable run the
D-Rays had, their record the rest of the season is 19-39. Now do not think the we believe that the Orioles are a good team by any means, IMPACT SPORTS just believes the line having Tampa Bay overvalued in this spot because Zambrano is 9-5 this season.

What intrigues us in this contest is the pitchers. Zambrano has a exceptional ERA of 2.79 over his last three trips. One problem we forsee is the fact that he has allowed more walks then strikeouts in those same games.(15-14)

Conversely, O's lefty Bedard is nearly 4 to 1 in his last three starts in the K/W category. Baltimore averages 5.7 RPG against RH starters this season and Zambrano's limited history against Baltimore has been weak, with a 1-3 record and an ERA 7.76.

We'll suport the value of the line in this situation and Play On the Birds.

                  JEFF BENTON

Ok, free pick run sits at a nice 15-6 last 21. Lets put another one in our money belt tonight.

I love the Dodgers tonight. They seem to be able to beat Randy Johnson.

LA is 7-2 against the D'backs this year and just swept them at Dodger Stadium 2 weeks ago outscoring them 21-6. This is a hot team right now.

Johnson is 1-3 over his last five outings and is coming off a defeat last Friday to the Giants when he gave up six hits and six runs -- three earned -- in five innings. He is 7-5 with a 2.87 ERA in 19 career starts against the Dodgers and I will look for this game to go to the bullpens and with that being the case, I will watch the best one in baseball, LA, get the win for me and a nice dog winner at that.

                  3* DODGERS

                          SGH

We're on a 70-38-2 run with our last 110 complimentary releases including a win with 9 of the last 11 releases

For Thursday your play is on Oakland to beat the Chicago White Sox

Two good young arms face-off as Rich Harden takes the hill for the A's and Jon Garland for the White Sox.

They have similar ERA's and similar records though Garland has been a little more successful at getting the W than Harden.

The White Sox had won four straight before the break but that momentum may not carry over. Oakland had a tough nine-game road trip before the break so a return home will be refreshing for the A's.

Chicago will also have to deal with the hole in the lineup created by Frank Thomas and his stint on the DL.

Oakland is 27-12 at home this season and the home team has won 15 of the last 20 between these two teams. Oakland won both meeting with the Sox at home this season.

In Harden's last four starts at home he is 1-0 with three ND's and the A's are 3-1 in those games. Harden and the rest of the team will be happy back at home and take care of business tonight.
