Write up I found about Carpenter

Now my own scouting report on Chris:

    1. He needs to get ahead in the count so he can throw that curve, look for first pitch changeup or fastball to be the norm...i dont remeber him throwing that curve as the first pitch very often, but if he is confident that he can control it, and not let it hang he will start with it
    2. Curve is his strikeout pitch
    3. Out of that trio from the Jays, chris had the weakest stuff, his fastball doesn't have much movement, but he has pretty good accuracy withit, and it sets up his change and curve perfectly
    4. He has trouble against LHB's, mostly cuz they can pick up on that sweeping curve...as a righty he throws that bad boy inside by the time it gets to the plate it will be right over it
    5. He is a flyball pitcher, which explains why he gives up so many homers
    6. He works quickly, his stuff is above average, his fastball is not...he is usually pretty good with runners onbase...most of the homeruns he gives up are from lefties (mentioned why above), and are usually with the bases empty...therefore these homeruns have not balooned his ERA as it did when he was with the Jays
    7. He does have a tendency to break down with RISP, but so far this year he has been repectable

    Overall

Flyball pitcher, with above average curve and change, fastball in mid-low 90's...better against righties than lefties, is suspetiable to pinch hit lefties...has struggled in the middle innings
Gives up about 1 homerun a game, that curve gets left out over the plate, or if he misses with his fastball, dangerous hitters will get homers
Good command, and is very efficient becuase of this, RISP can be a problem for him
He has dominated the cubs this year and for good reason, they are stacked with right batters...teams who can hit homers do give him trouble, but i would not count hte cubs as one of those teams, especially without Ramierez

Anybody on the cubs would be foolesh, at -130 the Cards have just about everything in their favour...what they lack is that special ability, and a guy like woods has that special ability to dominate a team...does he do that today? who knows, i dont know...but i see no reason why you shouldn't back the better hitting team, home team, better bullpen and much better bench

      Parts around where I'm

am there is a LOT of action coming in on the Cubs which is not surprising to me when most are looking at the "mighty" Kerry Woods FINALLY coming back to save them. The line has dropped from St. L at -136 to -130.

Point #1-You have...a HOT team...at home...WITH their ACE....who in the past games has owned the Cubs....vs. a COLD team..can't hit right now..on the road.....with a questionably damaged pitcher.

I look at it this way.....Woods was wild when he was healthy (except for the start of this year) and drove himself into high pitch counts. I would expect him to be on a pitch count tonight although everyone says he is a 100% . I don't buy it. The Cubs pen has been used up and in a moronic move yesterday the genius that is Baker brings a starter in to pitch from the pen and got hit up. Good grief. This team is in trouble. It's like saying certainly the Cards HAVE to lose sometime.....certainly the Cubs can't lose their 6th in a row with Woods going...aka earlier this year....Certainly the D-Rays won't win their 10th in a row....certainly the Expos won't lose their 7th in a row!

So here you have this pitted against==>See Point #1!

FWIW and BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ON YOUR PARLAY!!
I am NOT schizophrenic......and NEITHER am I! Just paranoid that fear may overcome my insanity!

i dont get why they call baker a genius either...........they're struggling with the sticks, Macias will start it tonight so the genius is trying something to shake them up....................its not as humid in stlouis as it usually is this time of year when home runs come cheap at busch... i cant go over.......i wanna play contrarian cause it looks to me everything logical spells cardinals victory, but it's the only game for 3 days so i will play cubs

Carpenter is 3-0 vs the Cubs this year

          Agree with goldvike.

          Good luck tonight.

I like the under here. Wood can't be expected to be in top form, but even if he isn't, he rarely gives up a lot of runs. Cubs aren't hitting at all. Cubs bullpen is very scary all the way around, but I think these two teams manage to stay under the 8. Good luck! Let us know what you do.
