  • Redskins and Eagles

In response to Memphis Mafia's Q regarding the Redskins and Eagles,

I am just now getting started on my NFL Futures Research. I will not make FINAL decisions until AFTER Pre-Season. But I do have some PRELIMINARY thoughts based on what I have researched to date:

REDSKINS will be a contender in 2005 and very real Superbowl threat in 2006. This year they will probably go OVER their win total, but I'm not making that call yet. I do not expect the Redskins to make the playoffs this year, although it is certainly possible. I cannot make the FINAL call until after Pre-Season; I put a lot of weight to Pre-Season regarding Futures, Playoff Teams, and Superbowl contenders.

EAGLES have head problems. I do not believe the failed in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP three consecutive years in a row because they were lacking a Jevon Kearse or Terrel Owens. The addition of these two players and the fact that they had won double-digits (ten or more) in the ATS column for THREE CONSECUTIVE YEARS would make me very leary of betting on them.

When Philly lost the NFC Championship to the Rams in St Louis they had reasonable excuses to do so. Namely, they were playing a PHENOM in the St Louis Rams and secondly they were on the Road.

But the following year Philly had NO excuses. They had home field throughout the playoffs and failed to get the job done. That 's the bottom line. This was my rationale behind my choice in LAST year's NFC Championship game; basicly, that if the Eagles could not get it done the prior year at home vs the Bucs, what would be different vs Carolina?

To me, the Eagles have entered a place where some teams go. The Vikings with Denny Green could only get so far; the Bills with Marv Levy; the Vikings with Bud Grant; any number of Shottenheimer teams; you get the point. That's my take on the Eagles, and I don't think the addition of a Front Runner like cry baby Owens will get them over that hump.

I am probably in the minority here, but I do not believe Donothan McNabb is the one to get them there. The NFC EAST Winner will be the Cowbows. The NFC Super Bowl Representative will be the GREEN BAY PACKERS, opinions that are subject to change (pending Pre-Season) but not likely to change.

I'll be doing a lot of NFL Pre-Veiw stuff here at the forum to promote my Spread Report Online, now in its 4th season...

I love the under on whatever the total wins is for Philly

      Over for the Giants.

The Phils problem mainly lies at head coach, felt that way after living there for 3 seasons.

No, but I will more than likely have a futures play on the Cowboys and not the Eagles. Again, these are PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS.

My FINAL thoughts, predictions, and FUTURES plays will come out in my NFL PREVIEW (Spread Report Online). Last year they kicked butt. I went 7-0 on NFL Team Wins OVER/UNDERS and recommended FUTURES plays on nine teams for conference/superbowl.

I hit the Panthers @ 35-1 as NFC Champs, the Pats @ 11-1 as AFC Champs, and the Pats @ 35-1 as SB Champs. I'll do it again this year...

Right now I'm sold on the Packers in the NFC, but I really cannot make final determinations until after Pre-Season. There's much to be learned there...

            Dave :

The sites on the blink , I just posted a exstensive reply and it went poof !

I agree with you and also think Russ Limbaugh was correct (albeit not politicaly) and if the owner does not turn Joe into a puppet and allows him to work his magic the Skins will accend quickly . Thinking here is Steven Davis would still be there if Gibbs would have had a say in it ?

Thanks for your time & thoughts !

My initial reaction is to go UNDER the Eagles as well, but the line stinks. At Olympic it is 9.5 +185. No way I go UNDER 9.5 with the EAGLES. There are better plays on the board.

Releasing Stephen Davis goes down as one of the biggest bone head decisions. Not quite as bad as Marty Morninweg opting to kick off when his Lions won the coin toss in overtime...

also remember that the eagles have a very easy schedule this year.

                dallas will be horrible
                giants will be horrible.
redskins will be ok. portis will get hurt, if not for any other reason is because he's on my fantasy kepper team.
                rock n roll

Not sold on the Giants being horrible. Coach is an improvment, QB is a huge improvment. Problem is linesmakers will probablt fluff the total for those reasons.

Giants have too many defensive concerns to be a threat. Cowboys will win the NFC East.

Here are some PRELIMINARY OBSERVATIONS regarding FUTURES and Week One...

DALLAS COWBOYS OVER 9.0 +100??? HUH??? Their Defense and Coach alone can win nine games!!!!

                    PACKERS OVER 9.0 -130??? IT'S A LOCK. BANK IT.

JET OVER 9.0 +145??? If Pennington survives Pre-Season, I see no reason why the Jets cannot return to 2002 form and post a winning season. Getting back +145 is a gift.

SEAHAWKS OVER 9.0 +105??? Why WOULDN'T Seattle have a winning season? They will contend for their division.

                    Week One:

Fourteen out of 16 games have spreads of 4 points or less. Interesting.

JETS -4 at home against Bengals?

Jets will bounce back this year. Edwards eager to avoid 0-5 start. Bonehead Bengals gonna start rookie against Jets front four???? Kitna' off best season of carreer and now they start rookie and let Dillon get away? That's why they are the Bungles. Jets romp.

                    Packers +1.5 @ PANTHERS?

This is the PACKERS chance to prove they could've won the game they feel they should've played. Had it not been for a 4th and 26 conversion by the Eagles last year, the Packers are playing at Carolina for the NFC Championship. This is their chance to play that game. Panthers relied an aweful lot on close wins and 4th quarter rallies last year. As much as I love'm, that's a red flag.

They won the NFC on sheer determination last year and will find repeating very, very difficult since they really are not a dominating team. Packers will make a statement. They are my Preliminary choice in the NFC to go to the Superbowl.

The Eagles over is the easiest bet I have ever seen.
There is no way they dont win at least 13 games. They improved there team in the off season and plus there schedule is easy.
                              2010: 23-12 +37.8
                              2011: 4-0 + 20
                              09-11 5*s and up: 34-7
