    Fullerton -105

    Just my 2 cents:

Playing South Carolina for some BIG $$$

The starter that lost to CSF (that seemed to walk every third batter) goes tonight against some guy who is 2-2 for CSF.

Think SC has the momentum and there is little chance he commits that many walks today.

Cal State Fullerton-South Carolina Game Notes
      June 24, 2004 – Omaha, Neb.

*Cal State Fullerton has won 14 of its past 16 and 29 of its past 35. Fullerton has not lost consecutive games since enduring a three-game losing streak from Mar. 31 to Apr. 3.

*Fullerton will play South Carolina on Thursday for the second consecutive day and for the third time in the series. The two teams had never met prior to the CWS, so the all-time series now stands at 1-1.

*Junior left-hander Scott Sarver will take the hill for Fullerton on Thursday. Sarver is 2-2 with a 3.16 ERA and has thrown 31.1 innings over 18 appearances. Sarver has not pitched since June 6, when he hurled a complete game win over Pepperdine in the second of three must-win games at the Fullerton regional. Making his first start of the season and pitching for the first time since May 11, Sarver allowed just a run on six hits.

*Not a good trend for the Titans: Fullerton also opened the 2003 CWS with two wins before losing game three by a 5-3 score (identical to this year). The Titans went on to lose game four as well, falling to Stanford by a 7-5 score.

*Ricky Romero has amassed the most wins by a Titan (13) since 2001, when Kirk Saarloos had 15. This is just the sixth time (1979, 1984, 1992, 1994 and 1995) that two Titan pitchers have won at least 12 games (Jason Windsor has 12 victories).

*Titan starting pitchers are 8-1 with a 1.99 ERA in postseason play. Collectively, the pitching staff has a 2.48 ERA and .236 batting average against in 10 NCAA Tournament games.

*The Titans are fielding at a .987 clip in postseason play and have committed just two errors in their past 79 innings.

*Hitting woes: The Titan trio of Felipe Garcia, P.J. Pilittere and Bobby Andrews is batting a collective .464 (13-for-28), but the rest of the Titans are batting a combined .149 (10-for-67).

*Fullerton had its 12-game winning streak against top-25 teams snapped by South Carolina on Wednesday. Overall, Fullerton is now 14-10 against ranked teams.

*The Fullerton bullpen has not posted a win since April 18 against Cal State Northridge.

*Fullerton pitchers have allowed runs in just 12 of their past 72 innings.

*Felipe Garcia has a season-high 11-game hitting streak and has 14 RBI in the Titans’ 10 postseason games. He is 19-for-42 (.452) in the tournament. He is also the top Titan hitter at the CWS with a .545 mark (6-for-11) and had six consecutive hits (two shy of the CWS record) over one stretch.

*Unlucky 13? Not quite…check out these “scary” parallels… In its 13th consecutive NCAA appearance, Fullerton qualified for its 13th CWS on June 13…The Titans’ hotel (Crowne Plaza in West Omaha) is 13 miles from Rosenblatt Stadium, which is on 13th Street…On Monday night, Ricky Romero won his 13th game of the year in George Horton’s 13th CWS game as a head coach and snapped Miami’s 13-game winning streak (and the Titans had 13 hits!)…The Titans’ radio booth in the Rosenblatt Stadium press box is booth 13…“Omaha, Nebraska” and “Titan Baseball” both have (you guessed) 13 letters.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SC junior, Matt Campbell pitched in 1st game on saturday against cfs he walked 8 batters in 5 2/3 innings. SC lost 2-0.
