Opening night for the CFL! One small play..........
1 STAR: Saskatchewan (+3.5) OVER TORONTO
A lot of hype about Toronto coming into this season with them picking up running back John Avery, who led the CFL in rushing in 2002 before a one-season fling with the Minnesota Vikings. And Toronto will feature a new look on offense under new offensive coordinator Kent Austin, who will employ a one back, five-receiver system. But I am going to take the points here. Saskatchewan has a healthy Nealon Greene at quarterback and NFL Europe standout Elijah Thurmon to throw to ball to. This is also the best defense that the Roughriders will put on the field in years. Nine starters, none of them over 30 years old, return from last year including all-star linebackers Reggie Hunt and Jackie Mitchell and the entire secondary. Toronto will be a major contender for the Grey Cup this season, but I think they will need time to gel. The Argos have always been slow starters, going 2-6 against the spread in the first month of the season over the last 3 seasons and just 12-20 against the spread since 1996. The Roughriders usually cash the tickets in June, going 3-0 against the spread in June games over the last 3 seasons and 4-1 against the spread since 1996. I'll take the points here!
