Lost one unit yesteday losing by two touchdowns with the O's. Big card for me today, these are my plays.....
2 STAR: Texas (-$125) OVER CINCINNATI
(Kenny Rogers vs. Jung Keun Bong)
The Reds are in a real funk right now losing seven straight games including last nights 10-7 loss at Philly in a game that took forever to play because of two rain delays. It was a late night trip home for the Reds and they get to face The Gambler who is off to a great start this season. The Reds have struggled against leftys this year posting a record of only 8-12 against southpaws and they are 1-7 after allowing 10 or more runs in a game this season. The Reds have to be a tired team right now after getting back very late from Philly after a seven game road trip and I look for the slide to continue tonight against the Rangers who had the day off yesterday. Texas is 8-3 when playing after a day off this season.
2 STAR: Minnesota (-$120) OVER MONTREAL
(Johan Santana vs. Zack Day)
A great game for Santana to get back on track against a little league offense. He is 7-1 in inter-league games over the last 3 seasons and 9-2 in June games since 1997. The Twins are also a solid 18-10 this season when coming off of a loss.
2 STAR: UNDER 7 RUNS Twins @ Expos
(Johan Santana vs. Zack Day)
Should be low scoring. As I said above, Santana should get back on track against the Expos weak lineup that has played 13 of their 18 games against left handed starts under the total this season. Montreal's starting pitcher Zach Day has allowed only a 16 earned runs in seven home starts this season. The Twins have also played 5 of their 6 interleague games this year under the total.
2 STAR: Anaheim (-$120) OVER PITTSBURGH
(Jarrod Washburn vs. Oliver Perez)
The Pirates have lost 7 straight games and 11 of 12 in the month of June and are facing the lefty Jarrod Washburn. Pittsburgh is only 3-10 against leftys this season and Washburn is 8-2 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125 over the last 3 seasons. Anaheim has done very well against left handed starters this season posting a 12-7 record and they are also 13-7 when the total is 8 to 8.5.
2 STAR: UNDER 9 RUNS A's @ Cardinals
(Matt Morris vs. Barry Zito)
I think this total is too high here. Both of these offense's are getting a lot of respect by the bookmakers and Oakland has just been crushing the ball in interleague play, but that was against the pitching staffs of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Matt Morris should bring them back down to earth and at home he is allowing about 3 runs per game. At the same time Barry Zito should do very well against St. Louis. Zito is also allowing about 3 runs per game on the road this season. I just can't see 10 runs scored in this one.
2 STAR: ARIZONA (+$115) OVER New York
(Brandon Webb vs. Jose Contreras)
I think this will be a slugfest, but I like the Diamondbacks to come out on top here. Contreras has been shaky at best, but he has really been hammered on the road where his ERA is 7.16. Also Contreras will have to bat without the DH in the national league park, so that takes away a little from the Yankees offense. I like the DBacks here.
2 STAR: OVER 10.5 RUNS Yankees @ Diamondbacks
(Brandon Webb vs. Jose Contreras)
As I said above, this should be a slugfest. Look at the numbers in these two pitchers last three starts. Contreras ERA is 5.27 and a WHIP of 1.76, Webb's ERA is 6.00 and a WHIP of 1.73. Almost two base runners per inning for each of them so there should be a lot of traffic on the bases tonight. The last three meetings between these two teams have all gone over the total.
1 STAR: ATLANTA (-$175) OVER Kansas City
(Russ Ortiz vs. Denny Reyes)
I'll lay the chalk here with the Braves. Atlanta 46-16 as a home favorite of -150 to -175 the last three seasons and the Royals are 0-5 as a road underdog of +150 to +175 this season and 12-29 the last three seasons. Kansas City is also only 1-8 on the road when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season. Look for a strong start by Russ Ortiz here.
1 STAR: SAN FRANCISCO (-$190) OVER Toronto
(Jason Schmidt vs. Miguel Batista)
Another heavy chalk game, but Schmidt has been lights out with an ERA of only 1.71 in his last three starts. Miguel Batista is only 2-5 when starting against San Fransicso and his team is 3-10 in his thirteen career starts against the Giants. Small play here.
