  • Finding The Holy Grail :

The search for the elusive prize continues , as my pony express drew up lame in the first leg of the run (a minor setback) the second rider took the mail to the next way-station in a cloud of dust . Bilbo Baggins has short legged his outlooks also and seems to draging feet at the moment , but a two day sweep has the ole gal sitting pretty and by regaining form has a chance to close the week on the plus side which shes accustomed to .

At 9-6 now after a horrible start and 7-0 run the last two days we await his 2-3 (suddenly Quite) hind-end to gather moss and mount his comeback in grand fashion . The bashing of myself , Monte , Wiz , Ez , and others has taken a different road at the moment and seems to be concentrating on whinning about losing picks instead . I just cant wait for the next round ( )

Enough of wasting my time on that issue and on to the games , my Dear GV my fears came true last night in the L.A. & RedSox match-up as Alvarez & Sanchez came on board to hurl 4.1 innings of hitless ball against the Boston club that swings pretty fair . I have noticed many references to Bull-pens (or lack there-of) lately and no one ever seems to mention the Dodger club in those threads ........ hmmmmm I wonder Why ?

Could it be they are the only club in all of baseball with far more strikeouts than hits when looking at mid-to-set-up & dont forget the Closer " Ole Gagme " whos a classic example of excellence .

I have to leave for Fla. this afternoon , to see my little-one and take care of some unfinished bizz but I will tender a few thoughts before departing and cast a few stones to ripple the water

      Plays :

      Gold Nugget #2 :

      Cinn. ( J Acevedo - R {3-5 / 5.09 ERA } )
      @
      Phillies ( E. Milton - L { 8-1 / 4.28 } )

      Number 9 1/2 : Over *

Take : Acevedo is a control pitcher ( 15 walks in 70 innings ) with less than dazzeling stuff as evidenced by his +1.4 hits per inning , meaning he puts the ball in play . His losing 5 in a row showing two things to me , #1 hes not a top-shelf hurler , #2 the Reds are slumping on thier run support ( a concern here ) . Good news is he only goes 5 innings per game which means we "will" see the pen-boyz and this will help untill Graves makes the scene.

Milton who avgs 6 innings per on the other hand has decent stuff , but has his moments at 1.2 hits per inning and a walk every 2 innings (3 freebes) per game . The club hits very well at home and thier park is a bit of a suprise this year (HR wise) so I expect this to be the only over of the day . As with upstairs I dont want to see Wagner to early also !

      Balt. ( E. Dubose - L { 4-4 4.98 ERA } )
      @
      Cleve. ( J. Westbrook - R { 5-2 3.06 ERA } )

      Number 9 1/2 : Under***

Take : Dubose has struggled a bit , but recovered with a decent outing last game , he lasts about 5 innings per and gives a hit per also , plus a walk every 2 (2.5 freebes) . The wish here is he pitches a normal game for about 4 to 5 then lets the mids-to-setups take over that arent to bad . Closers here are about avg and its a concern to .

Westbrook on the other hand is a gem so far this year , he goes 7 to 8 deep and less than a hit per , and his control is excellent at a walk every 3 or so (1.5 freebes) . Allowing only 5 HR`s so far in 70+ innings speaks well of him , plus Balt. tails off a bit on the road.

      Cubs ( M. Prior - R { 0-1 4.66 ERa } )
      @
      Astros ( The Rocket { 9-0 2.08 ERA } )

      Number 7 1/2 : Under *

Take : If Prior rebounds from his anomalous last outing (we think so) and with the team a bit road weary (+ innings yesterday also) and the Cubs " Face the Rocket " ...... nuff-said !

ps- in case Im wrong a small play till Prior regains his form .

      Wishing Everyone a Ton of Good-Luck :

            MMM

Darlin' - I posted this earlier. No one thinks this is funny . I think it's hysterical . I need your opinion.

This morning I read in The New York Times Obituary Column that one of New York's great entrepeneurs , Phil Kasekoff , passed away suddenly on Saturday. He owned and operated 37 movie theatres in the 5 Boroughs and was known not only for his business savvy but also for his many generous charitable contributions in the neighborhoods where he conducted business.
For all who are interested in paying their final respects the funeral will be tomorrow at Thompson's , located at 72nd St. and Central Park West.
            The viewing will be at 2:00, 3:45, 5:15, 6:50, and 8:20.
