winning points
PITTSBURGH (Ol. Perez) +105 over TEXAS (Benoit)
We can't say enough about the job Oliver Perez has done
since joining the Pirates. The Bucs have won 6 of his 9
starts so far (+$335) and his ERA is an impressive 3.20.
He's perfectly suited to oppose a Texas team with a losing
record against lefties (only 3-5,-$325 at Arlington). Pittsburgh
has had a great deal of success vs. righthanders on the road
thus far (13-9, +$825) and Joaquin Benoit has not been very
effective (5.24 ERA). The Rangers have fallen off the pace in
recent days, and are now in 3rd place in the AL West. We may
look for opportunities to go against them in the days ahead.
LA Lakers* over Detroit by 14
It's the ol' ''good team off an embarrassing loss'' situation.
The Lakers will make the necessary defensive adjustments, and
Shaq figures to respond to the calling-out by Phil Jackson that
he was tired in the second half of Game 1.
I don't know if we could ever defend better," Pistons coach
Larry Brown said. If that's the case, then they won't defend
as well tonight. The Lakers' bench had a horrible night in Game
1 and they've been good at rescuing the team when it's absolutely
necessary. Fisher and Rush figure to bounce back big this evening.
Maybe even Malone, too. LA LAKERS, 84-70.
