  • Hello Everyone. Here's my Annual Memo to MLB regarding scheduling!

Good to see you guys. I have an idea for the way the schedule is done in Major League Baseball and have included it below. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to sharing my picks and insight with all of you. It's good to see Wayne and Homer and the boyz winning some money. Back later.....

Dear Bud (and his cronies that try, and fail, to run Major League Baseball),

I am a HUGE fan of Major League Baseball. No, not that huge fat dude sitting behind home plate with a hotdog in one hand and a cell phone in the other trying to wave to my drunk friends while I'm on camera. I mean I am a fan of this great sport and have been since I was 6 years old. I'm the guy that has weathered all the storms you've gone through and that you've put us fans through. I'm the guy you should be trying to please.

I have a great idea of how to do scheduling in Major League Baseball that would not only increase attendance, but make the game more fair and maintain the "rivalries" you have attempted to create in the last few years. I am one of the people in the middle regarding InterLeague Play. I didn't need it, nor did I need realignment. However, I understood the thought process behind it and figured it might work. So I can handle these things. I merely have come up with a BETTER WAY to do it! Please hear me out.

My proposal is that we keep interleague play, as well as this unbalanced schedule that you introduced quietly a few years ago. We merely tweak it a bit. The problem is that attendance in some cities is going down NOT just because of payroll problems, but also because other teams in your league come into your city just one time, for 3 games. THAT IS BOGUS! Indians fans, Royals fans, Twins fans, etc., all want to see the Yankees & RedSox more. Also, we have seen InterLeague play and it's fine. We noticed the same thing that you did, however, that attendance is HIGH for the first few games, then goes down steadily during the last few games on IL play. That is why, and I have to commend you for this, you tried to sneak in this new wrinkle of putting more rivalry games like Cubs/White Sox, and Yankees/Mets at the BACK END of the interleague schedule. Nice try, but I see everything.

    Here is what the fans could not only live with, but would respond to;

NL Central Teams would play this schedule......
    75 Division Games.... 5 teams x 15 gms -- presently they play 19 or 17 vs each
6 IL games ...3 vs "Rival" and 3 rotating games-- presently they play 12 vs AL
40 gms vs another NL division...5 x 8 -- presently only 6 vs those teams
    40 vs the other NL division ... 5 x 8 -- presently only 6 vs those teams

That would leave 1 game you could do whatever you want with. Add it to the division schedule (for 16 against 1 team) or add it to IL play (for 7). The other NL teams would rotate so that you would play one team at home twice one year and then away twice the next year (unless you want to go 4 and 4 for two series only). That way, you'd get more games each year vs those teams, while still keeping your precious unbalanced schedule within your division. You'd simply have 5 series within your division instead of 6, and you could break it down to 7 at home and 8 away (and vice versa), or whatever you want. But now you'd get more games within the league outside your division while still limiting travel to a point.

Interleague play would not suffer. It simply would be cut in half, but the fans get tired of it after a while anyway. Plus the teams would have more games, as I outlined, vs the teams they are fighting against for a playoff spot. It's unacceptable that the Twins play the Brewers as many times this year as the Yankees and Red Sox. Same thing with some other teams.

NL East (and West) would play this schedule....
    64 division gms ... 4 teams x 16 gms -- Presently 19 or 18
    9 IL gms ... 3 series of 3 each -- presently 18
    48 gms vs Central .... 6 x 8 each -- presently only 6
    40 games vs West (or East) ... 5 x 8 -- presently 6 gms each

The same would be done with the American league, where you would make adjustments for the odd division out (West having just 4 teams), so that everything balances out. But the idea is the same. Add just a couple of games vs other American League teams, take just a couple of IL games away and maybe a couple of games within your division.

You'd maintain your rivalries within your division. You'd keep your obvious IL games (Yankees/Mets & Cubs/WhiteSox), while still having a few more games vs other IL teams. Just not as many games vs team we could care less about. That "scinitillating" Tigers/Mets series would still come up, just not quite as often. It's a WIN-WIN.

These are the facts of the case. They are not disputed.

Please read through this and accept it. We baseball fans would love this idea. Oh, and get rid of that stupid idea of the All Star game winner getting Home Field in the World Series. GIVE IT TO THE TEAM WITH THE BEST RECORD, DUMBASS!

OK. I am done. Have fun with this idea.
Please don't question my record or I will leave!!!!
