        FWIW-I would be shocked if LA traded Gagne for anyone this year;he may turn out to be the greatest closer ever.

          No, way I would trade Woods for Gagne.

          Cubs can find a reliever another way.

            Closers are generally overrated, though Gagne is not. Still, you wouldn't trade a starter for a closer under any circumstances. A starter like Wood gives you 15-20 wins a year. With closers, sometimes they make a difference, other times they don't. The Cubs' pen hasn't blown many substantial leads this year. 1 run games (like today) are where a closer really affects the outcome. With the Cubs living and dying by the home run, they shouldn't need to worry about protecting many 1 run leads this year.

                Still no deal in my book, although the sooner Patterson leaves, the better.
