    Season record: 110-120 -23.73 UNITS

(Note: WOB is now 55-33, 62.5% on OVER/UNDER plays this season.)

Lines from Pinnacle current as of 9:58pm Pacific on 06/02/04.

    Five plays for Thursday:

    UNDER 9 PHI (HANCOCK)/ATL (THOMSON) +106 - 1 UNIT - 4:35pm Pacific
Thomson has gone 7 IP in each of his last two starts and has looked good in doing so. He normally has stamina problems when his pitch count gets to about 60-70, so his recent outings are encouraging. Atlanta's offense wasn't very good with Chipper Jones in the lineup, and without him, the will hurt even more.

    UNDER 9 SF (WILLIAMS)/ARI (WEBB) +102 - 1 UNIT - 6:35pm Pacific
Webb has looked pretty bad recently, but he's too good to remain this way. He was great against SF last year, and has pitched better at home this year, so this could be a turnaround game for him. The effects of Bank One Ballpark will hurt Webb less than your typical pitcher. Williams is starting to show his quality again, and I think he will continue to pitch well.

    TB (HENDRIKSON) +165 over Min (Santana) - 1 UNIT - 10:10am Pacific
I like Santana to bounce back from his rough start at some point in time, but for someone slumping like he has, this line is too high. Throw in the fact the TB is much better against LHP and Minnesota is worse against LHP, and this makes for good value.

    TOR (BATISTA) +157 over Oak (Zito) - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Zito shouldn't be this big of a favorite anymore. He has been improving as of late, but his skills slide does not support this kind of number. Batista has shown signs of life, and I think Toronto can get to Zito.

    OVER 8.5 CLE (LEE)/ANA (ESCOBAR) +104 - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Lee will put a lot of runners on base due to his lack of control. He has been getting away with it this season, but Anaheim's offense with Scioscia's aggressive tendencies can wreak havoc with runners on base. Cleveland also has a dreadful bullpen. Escobar has been average, and Cleveland's has been near the top this year.

              Tampa Bay at Minnesota

Preview - Box Score - Recap

              1:10 pm EDT Thu Jun 3, 2004

              Starting Pitchers

              M. Hendrickson
              TB vs.
              J. Santana

Johan Santana looks to snap a three-start losing streak as the Minnesota Twins complete a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at the Metrodome.
Santana, a converted reliever, has been a steady force in the Twins' rotation until recently. After enjoying a 20-game unbeaten streak stretching back to last July, he lost three in a row for the first time since Aug. 6-17, 2002.

The 25-year-old left-hander was pounded for seven runs and 10 hits over a season-low three innings in a 17-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox on May 23. He appeared to bounce back with a solid effort through six innings against Kansas City on Saturday, but relinquished a one-run lead by allowing a home run, a single and a walk in the seventh, suffering a 5-2 defeat.

``When we score some runs, we're not able to hold a lead,'' said Santana. ``Then when we're able to go deep in the game, we're not scoring runs. You have to be able to do it more consistently.''

The Twins' struggles at the plate continued in a 4-2 loss to the Devil Rays on Wednesday night. Minnesota, which hit well in the first six weeks of the season, has dropped nine of its last 13 games. Apart from a season-high 16 runs in a win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Minnesota's offense has been held in check. Charlie like over 9' runs.
