Season record: 95-103 -19.68 UNITS
(Note: WOB is now 46-25, 64.7% on OVER/UNDER plays this season.)
Lines from Pinnacle current as of 12:05am Pacific on 05/26/04.
Five plays for Wednesday:
UNDER 7.5 ATL (ORTIZ)/MON (HERNANDEZ) -116 - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Both offenses are still struggling, so expect another low scoring game. Ortiz has been battling control all season long, but so far he hasn't gotten burned by it. Montreal's offense is not good enough to take advantage of his wildness. Atlanta's offense seems almost as bad, and will have problems against a quality pitcher like Hernandez.
PHI (MYERS) -121 over NYM (Ginter) - 1 UNIT - 4:10pm Pacific
Myers looks like he is turning it around, as he has pitched very well in his last three starts. His control rate over that span has been excellent, which is usually a good sign of things to come. The Philly offense got shut down yesterday, but they have come alive over the past week, and they perform very well against right handers. The Mets, meanwhile, do very poorly against righties. They have a .239/.314/.388 BA/OBP/SLG split against righties. Ginter picked up a W in his last start, but that was against Colorado at Shea minus Helton. He hasn't impressed, and Philly should be able to score off of him.
HOU (PETTITTE) -132 over CHC (Maddux) - 1 UNIT - 5:05pm Pacific
Pettitte has been very good, and looks to have a favorable matchup against the Cubs. The Cubs have been pretty bad against lefties, holding a .245/.324/.335 split against LHers. Pettitte hasn't been able to work deep into games because he's been racking up high pitch counts early. He should be able to correct that as the season goes on, but he's backed up by a very good bullpen. Neither pitcher should be adversely affected by Minute Maid Park, but I think the Astros have the pitching and hitting matchup won in this one.
OAK (REDMAN) +139 over Bos (Lowe) - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Lowe has really been struggling. He has been keeping the ball up, and he's very hittable when that happens. He is effective when his sinkerballer is on, but Oakland's hitters are pretty good against those types of pitchers. So either way I expect the Oakland lineup to have a pretty good day. Redman hasn't been too impressive, but he should receive enough run support in this one.
UNDER 10 NYY (MUSSINA)/BAL (LOPEZ) -116 - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Mussina has looked very good in three out of his last four starts, and has always pitched well at Camden Yards. Lopez took a no hitter into the fifth inning in his last start (which happened to be his first start of the year), before giving up six runs in that inning. This was probably due to the fact that he was coming out of the bullpen prior to that and wasn't used to the workload. He should improve, and has the stuff to be pretty decent. Both teams have good bullpens, and New York hasn't been very good against RHP.
