Monday Analysis
Detroit (+4) 84 INDIANA 82
The Pistons covered the spread in their 74-78 game 1 loss, despite being in a negative situation, and they have a very good chance of covering in this game too. Detroit is a better team than Indiana and my ratings favor the Pacers by just 2 points in this game. Game 2 in a playoff series generally goes to the team that lost game 1 straight up (113-85-8 ATS), and while that situation isn’t that significant it combines with the line value to give the Pistons a profitable 56% chance of covering at the current line of +4 points. I would have made Detroit a Best Bet at +5 points or more, but I’ll consider them a Strong Opinion at +4 or +4 ½ points..

Season record: 92-99 -18.23 UNITS
(Note: WOB is now 44-21, 67.6% on OVER/UNDER plays this season.)
Lines from Pinnacle current as of 7:02pm Pacific on 05/23/04.
Three plays for Monday:
UNDER 8.5 ATL (THOMSON)/MON (DAY) -111 - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
The short fences at Hiram-Bithorn shouldn't adversely affect either starting pitcher much, as they are both groundballers. With both offenses struggling, I can't really envision a whole lot of runs being scored in this one. Day should be able to hold his own against the Atlanta lineup. While Thomson isn't in the same class as Day, the Montreal offense is bad enough to make Thomson look really good.
UNDER 10 HOU (REDDING)/CIN (ACEVEDO) -119 - 1 UNIT - 4:10pm Pacific
This is a matchup of two flyball pitchers, and both lineups have trouble with these types of pitchers. Redding has put together three quality starts in a row, and seems to have righted the ship after an awful start. He has given up only 2 ER in his last 3 starts (18.2 IP). A nice bulpen will back him up. Acevedo seemed to be going through a rough stretch that flyballers often go through before turning in a dominant 11 K performance in his last start. He matches up fairly well against Houston's lineup.
TOR (MILLER) -109 over Ana (Lackey) - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Toronto is struggling right now, but they face a pitcher in Lackey who is struggling with his dominance rate. Sooner or later, the balls that he allows in play will find the holes, and the runners he allows will score. Although Toronto's offense is in a big slump, they do have the hitters that can take advantage of Lackey's shortcomings. Miller has been battling control problems, but Toronto should provide him and the bullpen with adequate run support.

MORNING GUYS..............
Subject: MLB Selection Inside
Arizona at Florida
1:05 pm EDT Mon May 24, 2004
The Arizona Diamondbacks hope Luis Gonzalez can get his act together because Richie Sexson won't be around to back him up.
The Diamondbacks will once again play without Sexson when they finish a four-game series with the Florida Marlins.
Arizona placed its slugging first baseman back on the disabled list Sunday with an injured left shoulder.
Sexson, who partially dislocated and tore a muscle in the shoulder while checking his swing against the Chicago Cubs on April 28, reaggravated the injury on another check swing against Florida on Saturday -- just his second game since being activated. Marlins-135
