  • Players Gambling on Games

    Associated Press:

NCAA Gambling Study showed 35% of male athletes and 10% female athletes have bet on college sports in the last year. Division III athletes are the most likely to gamble. 21,000 athletes were surveyed for this study.
The study showed 1.1% of football players reported taking money for playing poorly in games. 2.3% of football players admitted they were asked to influence the outcome of games. 1.4% acknowledged altering performance to change the outcome.

It pays to be on the right side of the fix.

I seriously doubt whether any really GOOD college football or basketball player would admit to taking money(even if he did) and thus jeopardize a professional career.
Even if the player were promised anonymity, no one with a brain in his head would admit it.
My inference is 1) that those who admitted it are not players who are good to begin with and/or players with professional insight and 2) there is actually a higher percentage of players taking money (including good players) than stats show and not admitting it for reasons stated above.
Frankly, I am surprised of the high percentage of players who admitted on betting on sports;they sure as hell are not Pete Rose disciples.

There was a lot more to the story I just put up the highlights. You remember in years past we had Tulane and Rhode Island taken off the board in hoops because of players taking money to fix games. There have been several others in the past that have been caught taking money. Just thought you guys would like to read.

GR8-I enjoyed the article-don't get me wrong.
I was simply trying to make the point that not every player admits being paid off or betting on games especially if they have a possible megabuck pro career possibility looming.

I agree w/you, I find it hard to believe that the players who have a future at the next level would admit anything!
