    WinOnBaseball.com - Thursday Report - 05/13/04

Welcome to our first annual service free trial!

-- WinOnBaseball handicaps Major League Baseball exclusively.

-- All plays with analysis, along with current and past season records, will be updated daily on the "Records" page of our website.

-- All records will be documented at National Sports Monitor (*********.com)

-- NEXT UPDATE will be sent before 6:00am Pacific on Friday, May 14th.

    Season record: 68-79 -21.02 UNITS

    Two plays for Thursday:

Lines from Pinnacle current as of 10:55pm Pacific on 05/12/04.

    PHI (PADILLA) -111 over SF (Rueter) - 1 UNIT - 12:35pm Pacific
Rueter finally had a good game his last time out, but I still don't trust him, and will continue to bet against him whenever the lines warrant. Padilla has pitched well all season, the only problem for him has been inadequate run support. Against Rueter, I think the Phillies can score enough to give Padilla the W.

    MIN (SANTANA) -136 over Sea (Franklin) - 1 UNIT - 10:10am Pacific
Santana looked like he was in last year's form before getting hit around in his last start. He should bounce back against the weak hitting Mariners. Franklin has been pretty decent so far, but will probably not keep it up.

PLEASE NOTE: All wagers are recommended for a "base" unit. Thus a side for 1 UNIT at -110 should be considered risking 1.10 UNITS to win 1.00 UNITS, while a team at +110 should be considered risking 1.00 UNITS to win 1.10 UNITS.

        Seattle at Minnesota

        1:10 pm EDT Thu May 13, 2004

The Seattle Mariners will try to avoid getting swept at Minnesota for the first time in nearly 12 years, and matching their longest losing streak of the season as they complete a three-game set with the Twins.
The Mariners's 4-3 loss Tuesday left them on the verge of being swept at the Metrodome for the first time since Sept. 7-9, 1992. They have lost four straight, moving within one of tying their longest slide of the season. Seattle lost five straight to begin the season, and later matched it from April 21-25.

Seattle, which has won at least 91 games in each of its last four seasons, dropped 10 1/2 games behind AL West-leading Anaheim.

The Mariners' problem has been their lack of offense. They have scored the second-fewest runs in the AL with 132. Only Tampa Bay has fewer (112).

Edgar Martinez drove in all three runs Wednesday with the 300th homer of his career. Seattle left 13 runners on base in the game. Twins Under 10 runs

                BIGAL

At 8:00 PM, our 5* System Play of the Year is on the San Antonio Spurs over the Lakers, as Gregg Popovich's men fall into an awesome Playoff system that has NEVER LOST since 1990. It's a perfect 11-0 SU and ATS, and what we want to do is play on any home team that has lost 2 or more games in a row, if they were on a 6-game (or better) winning streak prior to their current losing streak. On average, these home teams have won by 16 points per game, while being favored by just 5.5 points. With the Spurs current 2-game skein following 17 victories in a row, look for San Antonio to blow out Los Angeles on Thursday night. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

                  Thursday Afternoon MLB Play

                  5/13/04: Free Play

PHILADELPHIA (Padilla) -110 at SAN FRANCISCO (Rueter) +100:
                  MLB - 3:30PM (EST)

Vincente Padilla has really pitched much better than his record shows at (1-4). The Phillies on average have scored under 3 runs per in Padilla's starts this season. However, their bats have started to heat up over the last few weeks and should remain hot against Kirk Rueter on Thursday.

Rueter is an average pitcher at best that requires a lot of defensive and offensive support to wins games as he does not strikeout many batters and generally will allow his fair share of runs. The Giant's offense is rather cold right now and Bonds is struggling at the plate with little protection helping him. Give the Phillies the advantage here on the mound and with the sticks (although Bowa is a bum).

                          Dr. Bob

                          Thursday Analysis
                          SAN ANTONIO (-5) 93 L.A. Lakers 85
The Lakers held serve at home with two wins, which was a bit surprising to me since the Spurs were in good situations in both games. There are no general playoff situations favoring either team in this game, but the Lakers continue to be a different team away from home. Los Angeles is just 14-31 ATS on the road this season, including a pair of 10 point losses in the first two games of this series. The Lakers are even worse on the road after a victory (6-21 ATS) and they’re only 2-10 ATS as a road underdog, so competing with good teams on the road has been even tougher for L.A. My ratings favor the Spurs by 6 ½ points and they have a solid 55% chance of covering the spread in this game.
