  • I Need a Favor

I have Mark Prior on my Fantasy Baseball team . Can anyone give me the real dope as to when he's due to return ? It origionally was the end of May give or take . I've been holding on to him. Now I hear that The Cubs have recently placed him on the 60 day disabled list . Not sure about timetable now .

    Thanks, - Neil

    Prior throws three innings Monday

CHICAGO -- Mark Prior is halfway there.
Prior threw 45 pitches Monday over three innings in his third simulated game at Mesa, Ariz., in the Chicago Cubs' extended Spring Training camp. The Cubs want the right-hander to be able to throw 90-100 pitches before they activate him. If all goes well, he could be reinstated June 3.

Prior threw about 14 breaking pitches and 12 out of the stretch and looked good, according to reports.

"For the first time, I felt like if I was ready to go five, six innings, I could have gotten big league hitters out," Prior told an Arizona reporter. "I was hitting some spots and had some good life on my pitches. I worked up in the zone.

"I had to go out of the stretch a few times, but one big difference from Wednesday is that the timing is there," Prior said. "I had two good bullpens between [simulated games]. I was much more relaxed and my arm is starting to come along. Today, I felt much better."

Prior, sidelined all spring with an inflamed Achilles, was expected to join the Cubs in Los Angeles this week for a bullpen session with pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Prior, who won 18 games last season, guessed he could throw in a real game, not a simulated one, on Saturday in Mesa.

"They said [my velocity] was in the low 90s, which is fine," Prior said. "I'm more worried about what my breaking ball is doing. When I get a read off that, that will tell me how I'm pitching. Everything's coming along on track."

Prior will be placed on the 60-day disabled list Friday, dating to March 26. That will make room on the 40-man roster for infielder Damian Jackson, who was to join the Cubs on Friday from Triple-A Iowa and help fill in for injured shortstop Alex Gonzalez.

          You are most welcome
