All lines taken from Pinnacle and current as of 4/25/04 1:30am Pacific.

        Season record: 32-39 -12.25 UNITS

        Seven plays for Sunday:

        UNDER 8.5 PHI (PADILLA)/MON (DAY) -116 - 1 UNIT - 10:05 am Pacific
Day has turned in three consecutive dominant starts. Too bad his team has scored only four runs for him in those starts. The Montreal offense has been averaging about 1.4 runs per game, and it is unlikely that they will improve much against Padilla. Day should be able to continue his success, and I don't think Philly will get much either.

        CIN (ACEVEDO) +112 over Pit (Perez) - 1 UNIT - 10:35am Pacific
Both starters have started the year off hot. Acevedo has been especially impressive. His weakness is that he tends to keep the ball high, but the Pittsburgh lineup as a whole has not performed well against flyball pitchers over the last three years. I give the starting pitching and bullpen edge to Cincinnati in this one.

        UNDER 9 -121 NYM (LEITER)/CHC (CLEMENT) - 1 UNIT - 11:20am Pacific
Clement has followed up a poor spring with a nice start to the regular season. Movement on his pitches was lacking in the spring, but it has come back now, and was especially evident in his last start. He has also always performed well at Wrigley, and should be able to continue his success. Leiter, with his 0.52 ERA has also looked exceptional. He has historically done well against the Cubs hitters. Two hot pitchers should equate to a low scoring game. As of right now, the winds don't seem to be much of a factor. I would be mindful of it, however, as Leiter is a pretty extreme flyballer, which means that if the winds are blowing out the Cubs have the potential to put up a lot of runs.

        ARI (DESSENS) +109 over SD (Lawrence) - 1 UNIT - 1:35pm Pacific
Although he has a winning record, Lawrence has not pitched well in any of his four starts this year. His velocity is still down, and opponents are hitting .345 against him. Dessens is usually solid for his first 70-80 pitches before breaking down, and hopefully Arizona will give Dessens and the pen enough run support in this one. I think the Dbacks will win based offensive production against Lawrence.

        BOS (MARTINEZ) -110 over NYY (Vazquez) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Vazquez will be pitching on three days' rest after throwing 113 pitches in his last start. It's still early in the season, but that's a lot to ask against a team like Boston. Boston seemed to have his number in his earlier appearane against them. Pedro still hasn't fully regained his velocity, but he still looked very good in his last start. He should be able to perform well against the struggling Yankee offense and has pitched well at Yankee Stadium in the past.

        CLE (WESTBROOK) +109 over Det (Johnson) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Westbrook hurled 7 perfect innings in his last appearance against Detroit, which included 7 strikeouts. As long as he throws strikes, he can be effective, and his last outing should give him the confidence to throw his very good sinker in the strike zone. Johnson has not looked good at all since his opener, and Cleveland should have success against him.

        OAK (HARDEN) -121 over Ana (Ortiz) -129 - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm Pacific
Ortiz is one of my "bet against" pitchers, and this may be my last opportunity to bet against him, as he has looked horrible and will probably be sent to the bullpen if he doesn't pitch well today. He had poor success against Oakland last year, which should continue today. Harden was dominating in his last start. He tweaked his mechanics and turned in a gem after a rough first outing and should be able to hold the anticipated lead that his offense will give him.

PLEASE NOTE: All wagers are recommended for a "base" unit. Thus a side for 1 UNIT at -110 should be considered risking 1.10 UNITS to win 1.00 UNITS, while a team at +110 should be considered risking 1.00 UNITS to win 1.10 UNITS.

In addition to daily tracking of +/- UNITS we have started a Pinnacle account with an initial deposit of $2300 (+$230 bonus) for a starting bankroll of $2530. Base unit will be 4% of total bankroll.

        Beginning Bankroll: $2530

        Current Bankroll: $1,329.20

        Today's base unit: $53.17

4/25/04: Today's Free Play from Prime Sports Picks

SAN DIEGO PADRES (Lawrence) -115 at ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (Dessens) +105:
              MLB - 4:35PM (EST)

Look for the offenses to take control of this game as neither starter has had much success keeping runners off the bases. Brian Lawrence is (2-1) and the Padres are (3-1) in his starts, but he truly has had only one strong outing this season. Arizona will go with Elmer Dessens who is just not very good at doing much when it comes to pitching and San Diego;s lineup should be able to take advantage. Go with Padres here on the road.

              Best of luck,
              -Drew

NBA Playoff Freebie for April 25th (11-2 +19.6 units for members so far)

Free picks are 57-39 (+32.73 units) in 2004. Yesterday's freebie pushed as Detroit/Milwaukee hit the line at 180.

Free 2-unit NBA Playoff Freebie for April 25th:

Take Los Angeles Lakers -2.5 @ Houston

Houston won game 3 and will have some confidence going into this one. They may well lead at the end of the first half but look for the Lakers to pull this one out in the 2nd half as Shaq dominates Yao with an impressive performance offensively. The Rockets got their win in this series, I don't see this series going to 2-2 as Houston's inexperience in the playoffs will show as Francis reverts back to turning the ball over too much. Take the Lakers and give the 2.5 points as they go up 3-1.
