VEGAS SPORTS INSIDERS
Sunday, April 18, 2004
MLB BASEBALL
Yankees @ Boston
Pick: OVER 9.5
Time: 2:00 PM EST
Today the Vegas Sports Insiders look for the Yankees and Red Sox to score over 9.5 runs, when they matchup today in Boston.
Reigning AL MVP Alex Rodriguez is learning the same lesson several superstars have before him: It's not easy being a new New York Yankee. Rodriguez looks to break out of his season-opening funk when the Yankees resume a four-game series with the rival Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Dealt from Texas to New York this past offseason after a deal between the Rangers and Red Sox fell through, Rodriguez has struggled mightily in pinstripes, batting a paltry .171 (7-for-41) with one homer and three RBIs.
Making matters worse, the perennial All-Star is coming up small in the Yankees' first significant series of the season. Rodriguez is hitless in eight at-bats over the first two games against Boston, and has made several key outs with runners in scoring position.

NATIONAL SPORTS ADVISORS - http://www.nsawins.com
MLB BASEBALL
Oakland @ Anaheim
Pick: Oakland -110
Time: 8:00 PM EST
Today the National Sports Advisors look for Oakland to defeat Anaheim as -110 favorites, when they matchup tonight in California.
Vladimir Guerrero is settling in nicely in Anaheim.
The outfielder will look to continue his solid start with his new team when the Angels conclude their three-game series with the visiting Oakland Athletics.
A career .323 hitter who averaged 37 homers a year over the past six years with Montreal, Guerrero was the biggest catch of the winter as he signed a five-year, $70 million deal with the Angels.
So far, he's been worth the money.
The right fielder hit his fourth home run of the season during the Angels' 6-3 win Saturday, and is now batting .292. The 28-year-old has hit safely in nine of 12 games with his new team.
Despite their loss Saturday, the A's are off to a solid start thanks to, among others, Jermaine Dye and Marco Scutaro.
In his 10th major league season, Dye has been plagued throughout his career by injuries, playing in more than 100 games just three times. However, he has already shown this season what he's capable of when healthy, with six homers and 14 RBIs.

Sunday Night's ESPN Game Free from Prime Sports Picks
4/18/04: Today's Free Play from Prime Sports Picks
OAKLAND A'S (Zito) -107 at ANAHEIM ANGLES (Escobar) -103:
MLB - 8:10PM (EST)
Look for Oakland and Anaheim to battle it out again on Sunday night in another close contest. Pitching will dictate here and Zito has always played well against the Angles, while Escobar has had trouble facing Oakland hitters.
Expect a strong rebound performance from Zito and the A's, so go with Oakland on Sunday night.

WinOnBaseball.com - Sunday Report - 04/18 /04
Season record: 20-24 -6.27 UNITS
All lines from Pinnacle Sports, effective as of 4/18/2004, 03:14:00 AM - PST. Listed pitchers must start.
Six plays for Sunday:
FLA (PENNY) -118 over Atl (Hampton) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
Penny is really on top of his game right now. He followed up a good spring with a couple of regualr season appearances, including a dominating one his last time out. He threw 109 pitches in his last start, but I'm not too worried about that pitch count this early in the season. Hampton, meanwhile, followed up a bad spring with two bad regualr seasons starts. The Florida lineup has hit him well in the past, and these hitters hit lefties well. Florida's pen has looked good so far, and the strong pitching should get them a W in this one.
MON (VARGAS) +189 over Phi (Wolf) - 1 UNIT - 10:35am Pacific
Montreal has displayed an anemic offense thus far, but I think there is good value here. Wolf experienced a big time drop in his skill set in 2003, and many people feel that it was an abberration, but I think it's real. His bad start may or may not validate this, but he's definitely not looking good right now, and I think it's crazy that he's this big of a favorite at this point in time.
SF (TOMKO) -138 over LA (Weaver) - 1 UNIT - 1:05pm Pacific
Tomko's big problem is giving up the long ball. Pac Bell Park should help him out tremendously in that regard. Can't envision Weaver having too much success, and I think the Giants offense can give Tomko and his bullpen enough run support to work with.
OVER 10.5 BAL (DUBOSE)/TOR (HENTGEN) - 1 UNIT - 10:05am Pacific
DuBose has had two poor outings, and has twice as many walks as strikeout. Against a patient hitting team like the Blue Jays, I think he'll put a lot of men on base. This will be trouble, as he has displayed a gophertis problem also; he has given up 4 HRs in ony 12 IP. Pitching at SkyDome won't help. Meanwhile, Hentgen has lost velocity, and hasn't shown that he can top 84 mph yet. The Baltimore lineup should take advantage of this and put up their fair share of runs as well.
NYY (CONTRERAS) +119 over Bos (Lowe) - 11:05am Pacific
Sorry, didn't have time for write up.
OVER 8 OAK (ZITO)/ANA (ESCOBAR) -114 - 5:05pm Pacific
Sorry, didn't have time for write up.
PLEASE NOTE: All wagers are recommended for a "base" unit. Thus a side for 1 UNIT at -110 should be considered risking 1.10 UNITS to win 1.00 UNITS, while a team at +110 should be considered risking 1.00 UNITS to win 1.10 UNITS.U GOT A HUNCH BET A BUNCH
