  • A Question for MMM

Hiya Darlin - Thanks for all the sweetness you share with everyone.
    I have a Q - when you post : Penn National : Race #1 ; 7/126
Please explain what the betting procedure is . I know it's basic but please advise . Does this mean hook up the 7 horse with each of the others ? Thank you so much . - Neil

    Hey Bud!

    I believe it means play:

    7 & 1
    7 & 2
    7 & 6

        Coverboy :

        Hello Again :

7/126 is a simple inexpensive wager , it costs only 6.00 and recieves half the posted payout ( 1$ variety on Tris & Supers ) but retains full value on Quinellas ( full pay-out ) . Calling a race dead on the numbers is a tough job in any race and mostly for the very old , very experienced number jockeys . So by playing it that way gives you frugal value and at the same time gives you a fair chance for the outlay . You noticed that it came in 672 so all you won was a Quinella and missed ( barely ) your chance at a Trifecta because of the wager structure .

When putting any number at X/ you have placed yourself in a position to absolutely come in at first place or its a loser ( except in Quinellas ) . After that " any " combination of numbers is a winner for a Tri or a Super , so its like this for a winner with that particular set of numbers :

        7126 , 7216 , 7621 , 7612 , 7261 , 7162

Any of these would have been a winner bet in this manner , but had you boxed them ( 1267 boxed ) it would cost 24.00 instead and been a winner because in a box they can hit in " any " order.
So in essence by saving yourself 18.00 , you also lost out on a Trifecta payout that would have more than covered your outlay easily + profit .

You noticed also at Santa Anita that Gary suggested to box the 2578 for 24.00 , and it came in a 8375 . Had that 3 been a 2 in any order you would have hit the Quinella , Trifecta & the Super ( nice indeed ) He was a bit miffed at its outcome ( ) but his savvy shows he was on the right trail ( no doubt ) .

I hope this gives you a small but accurate insight as to the hows and whys of a wager of that type

        G.L.
