    WinOnBaseball - Friday Report - 04/16/04

-- NEXT UPDATE will be posted before 6:00am Pacific on Saturday, April 17.

    Season record: 14-21 -7.97 UNITS

All lines effective as of 4/16/2004, 12:02:00 AM - PST. Listed pitchers must start.

    Four plays for Friday:

    UNDER 8 MON (HERNANDEZ)/PHI (MILTON) -115 - 1 UNIT - 4:05pm Pacific
Hernandez has looked pretty good thus far, and has had pretty good success against the Philly batters. The Philly offense has been pretty weak so far, and Hernandez should continue to keep them quiet. The Montreal batters have also been anemic thus far, and Milton should not have a problem with them. Two solid starters with two weak offenses should hopefully keep this one under.

    ARI (JOHNSON) -103 over SD (Peavy) - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
Johson has a great history against the Padre hitters, and pitching at Petco should help. His last start was troubling, but it was pretty much limited to one inning. In Peavy's brief history against Arizona, he has not fared well. I think Johnson should be able to return to form in this game.

    KC (GOBBLE) +140 over Min (Santana) - 1 UNIT - 5:10pm Pacific
Gobble, a lefty, should hold up pretty well against Minnesota's lineup, which struggles against lefties. The problem will be whether their bullpen will be able to hold up. Santana is a quality pitcher, but is probably fighting through some sort of injury. His best pitch is his changeup, but he went almost exclusively fastball in his last start. He threw 94 pitches in 5 innings in that outing. Moreover, he's been inducing groundballs at an extreme rate, when normally he is an extreme flyballer. I think the KC offense should be able to take advantage.

    UNDER 8 OAK (HUDSON)/ANA (COLON) -111 - 1 UNIT - 7:05pm Pacific
(Richard was unable to provide analysis for this play due to time constraints.)

PLEASE NOTE: All wagers are recommended for a "base" unit. Thus a side for 1 UNIT at -110 should be considered risking 1.10 UNITS to win 1.00 UNITS, while a team at +110 should be considered risking 1.00 UNITS to win 1.10 UNITS.

    Good luck,

    Edward (Sales & Marketing)
    Richard (Handicapping)

This is a great price for a great pitcher. I like Peavy and think he'll have a very solid year but this matchup belongs to the Big Unit. He has had 2 subpar starts but his third will be like Roy Halladay's, a very solid one. Johnson is 12-2 with a 2.17 ERA lifetime vs. the Padres, take him here as he gets a win in San Diego.

Free Winners for Friday, April 16
            MLB BASEBALL
            Kansas City @ Minnesota
            Pick: OVER 9.5
            Time: 8:10 PM EST

Today the National Sports Advisors look for Kansas City and Minnesota to score over 9.5 runs, when they matchup with Minnesota today.

Johan Santana hopes to bounce back from a pair of disappointing outings when the Minnesota Twins open a three-game series with the visiting Kansas City Royals.

Santana, the Twins' hottest pitcher down the stretch last year, got off to a shaky start in 2004, lasting just four-plus innings against Cleveland on April 6 due to spasms in his left forearm -- an injury that also flared up during last season's AL division series against the New York Yankees.

The left-hander was given a clean bill of health for his next start, but only managed to last five innings in the Twins' 6-5 loss at Detroit on Sunday. Santana allowed three runs and five hits, while striking out three and walking one. He did not receive a decision.

Santana began last year in the Minnesota bullpen, but emerged as a key starter in the Twins' run to a second straight AL Central title. He finished the year 12-3 with a 3.07 ERA.

Santana will try to follow a brilliant effort by right-hander Brad Radke in Thursday's 3-0 victory at Cleveland. Radke allowed four singles over eight innings and Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his first save since 1999 as the Twins took the final two games of the three-game set.

The Royals suffered a three-game sweep in Chicago, including Thursday's 6-5 loss to the White Sox, which ended on Magglio Ordonez's 10th-inning homer off D.J. Carrasco.

Mike Sweeney went 3-for-5 with an RBI for Kansas City, which slipped to 0-3 on its nine-game road trip.
Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? Oh, it looks good on you though.

HEY, WELCOME BACK RICK...I COULD NOT GET YOUR ADDY BUT WELCOME BACK AND THANKS FOR POSTING...

                Baseball Play/Friday............

Our free plays are now 8-1 here with a couple of nice Dogs winning in the process. All Plays have won very easily except for the lone loser which lost very easily. As expected, we are in the number 1 Spot in the Ultimate Handicapping Contest now and the standings link is below as well.....

                Rockies/Cardinals Over 9.5 (Stark/Morris)

It appears that we have convinced Frank Magliosa to start posting his plays again starting today. He is a very superstious man and he stopped for that very reason. He is 5-1 to open up baseball this year and we welcome him back. We are looking at the NBA Playoffs this afternoon. The Playoffs have been good for us in recent years and we are very selective. Those plays will be ready no later than early tomorrow morning........

                        NHL Playoff Play.........

                        Yesterday 1-1 +0.15
                        Wednesday 2-1 +1.60

Lightning -1.5 +185....Kind of a no-brainer here.....since losing game 2 Tampa has woken up and dominated the Islanders in every facet of the game. We do not see any reason for this not to continue, with the Lightning at home and ready to advance to the next round, we will eschew the much-too-expensive-for-us -200 ML and go for the big payout. Once again, if you are with us on this one, get it early as we forsee the line going down perhaps 20 points or so before gametime.

The Ottawa / Toronto game is OTB pending a game-time decision whether Leaf's Captain Mats Sundin will play....unless a tempting line comes out earlier, we consider this game a pass.....
