NHL/NCAA Picks for 1/29/03

Todays NCAA card is pretty tough. I will post my b-ball picks later if I have any. The games that I am looking at right now include:
-Creighton
-Colorado
-William & Mary
-Rutgers
-Cincinatti

Tonight in the NHL I like and will play:
-Carolina +.5
-Edmonton -.5
-Ottawa -.5

Creighton for some reason of late seems to play like crap the 1st half then they pour it on in the 2nd half to win the game. I need to start checking out 2nd half plays on them.

Adding with my current hockey selections:
-The Carolina game I like Under 5 along with Carolina.
-In the Edmonton game I also like Under 5 along with Edmonton.

My top NCAA plays yesterday went 1-0. Today's top play will be:
-Illinois-Chicago @ Witchita St. +3.5.
-This is one of those games where a road favorite will not cover in my opinion.
-Illinois-Ch. is 12-5 while Wright St. is 7-10.
-Wright St is 6-2 at home and Ill-Chi. is 6-3 on the road.
-Ill Chi is 4-6 ATS while Witchita is 3-6-1 ATS
-Last five games for Ill Chi on the road have gone 3-2 ATS.
-Last five games for Witchita at home have gone 3-2 ATS.
-Witchita last lost at home agaisnt Butler by 11 points.
-Illinois Chi is avg. 78.4 ppg while allowing 71.8 on the road.
-Witchita is avg. 63.2 ppg while allowing 67.2 at home.
-Last year these two teams met twice. The first game was at Ill where Ill won by 2 68-66. There second meeting was at Witchita where witchita won 63-62.
-The value index rating has Ill-chi at 48 and witchita at 46. The value index line currently has witchita as a 1 point fav. giving us an edge of 4.5 pts.

I know these stats don't really give that much edge to witchita but remember that the last two times these teams have met, the largest margin of victory was 2 points. Plus witchita at home should be able to give them the edge to win straight-up. The coach for witchita is an old friend of the family and in fact played and coached high school ball in the area. I know he will have these guys ready to play tonight because he doesn't appreciate the record he currently has.

Play this game how you want to. I would rate this game as a 4* play out of 5. Nothing else really caught my attention for that big 5* game.

BC: I agree with you 100%. This game tonight just doesn't feel right. If I were to watch this game with money on Creighton, I probably wouldn't make it through the night watching there up and down play. Indiana St is a horrible team but I think if you look at there previous matchups at ISU, they all for some reason seem to be very close. Last year creighton was favored by 5 and the score ended up being 64-63 for creighton, this was at ISU. But then again, ISU allows almost 14 more ppg for the opposing team at home and last year at creighton they won 71-46. I figured the line to be 9.5 with that late creighton run in the second half. But this game could get real nasty or it could be a very decent game until like you said, the second half.

No, I will try and wait to see what happens in the 1st half. If its a close game then I will probably play creighton in 2nd half.
