Penny and the Marlins lost in this same matchup last week. Penny pitched a very good game, however. In 7 IP he gave up 3 ER, 4 hits, 1 walk, and had 6 K's. His downfall in that game was giving up 2 HR's, something he usually doesn't do, as his home run rate has been at a very good level the past 3 years. He has had great success against the Expos in the past. In his last 13 starts against them, he holds a 2.08 ERA and .211 BAA. The game will be in Puerto Rico again, but I do not think that will be much of a factor here. Benitez seems to have regained his fastball, so a question mark has turned into a positive, at least for now. Vargas also looked very good in his first start, but I think the Marlins can have more success against him the second time around; he did not fare well against them last year.

Today the National Sports Advisors look for Houston and St Louis to score over 9.5 runs, when they matchup tonight in St Louis.

Roger Clemens will look to follow up on his stellar debut with the Houston Astros as they face the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle game of their series at Busch Stadium.

``The Rocket'' allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts in seven scoreless innings of Houston's 10-1 rout of the Giants last Wednesday.

Clemens will try to give the Astros' relievers a breather following their dominant effort Monday in the series opener.

After starter Jared Fernandez -- a knuckleballer subbing for the injured Andy Pettitte -- allowed four runs in the first inning, Brandon Duckworth and four other relievers gave up just one run the rest of the way to help Houston to a 10-5 victory.

The bullpen, which had surrendered 10 runs in 16 1-3 innings prior to Monday, shut down the Cardinals, who came in batting an NL-best .311, over the last seven innings.

Houston's offense, which entered the game with the NL's second-best average at .307, flourished in the first matchup between the NL Central rivals. Richard Hidalgo drove in four runs with a three-run homer and an eighth-inning sacrifice fly that sealed the victory. Craig Biggio scored three runs and had three doubles.

The Astros' hitting is a major reason the team has won four of its last five games, as they have outscored their opponents 40-17 in the wins.
