A very scary day in baseball , and one that leads me to want to stay commited to my style of wagering .

    In one game a 37-8 (5year) trend 23-2 (3year) trend takes a deep-six , in another a 5 error blow-up that leads to 5 unearned runs , in another holding a commanding 3-0 lead going into the 8th inning @ home and in comes the veal-pen .

Just like a 4 to 2 game in the 8th (again) and they leave in a fellow ( W Cunnane ) for 2 innings and he calmly goes about giving up 2-BB , 6-H , 6-R , 3-HR`s , they where coming in one after another like that today.

Still a 5-5-1 on totals is not the end of the world , nor is a 2-3 on sides for a + 1.15 but it does go to show that it was a wierd and whacky day. 30-19-2 for + 21.9 YTD

Of course a (3-teamer) didnt hurt my day a bit , but it just frosts my (wait a minute , I dont have any) butt when these present thierselves.

I dare the baseball Gods to pull this again and theres always another day to play (Thanks for a Big one Montreal)

    When Will It End

MMM. It's not just today. If the games were just 7 innings long, like the second game of Double Headers in the minor leagues 50 years ago, I would be doing a whole lot better. I had San Diego with you, who when ahead 3 - 0, lets the Giants score the last 6 runs of the game. It was a replay of the A's game just a few hours eariler when the A's, who were ahead 4 - 0, let Seattle score the final 7 runs of the game. Cleveland did the same thing twice to me last week. Managers don't know how to manage anymore. All they do is read numbers from a computer printout, letting the computer make the decisions for them.

Then there is the great Billy Beane who thinks Arthur Rhodes is a closer. The same Rhodes who has 27 blown saves and only 17 saves prior to this season. How long are the A's starters going to put up with being taken out of the game so a so-so reliever can come in and blow the save. And it goes on and on.

I've got them and they are still frosted after today. It would have been a hard freeze if the Mets under was taken away.

      sandman :

I accept the fact that the secrete inter-office memo has been sent to each club by MLB , and my style takes into account that this will be the case in a few of these games . But to see that many across the board go overboard on the same day defies logic ( at least mine ).

In the Braves fiasco I have to assume that Cox was just attempting to give Cunnane a few innings before sending him to the tank ( AAA ) , but from a fans view-point I dont want to see my or any team give up in the 8th when we are down by only 2 (4 to 2 Cubs) and let a guy serve up " tater-after-tater " for 2 complete innings he was absolutely horrible and it clearly was not his day .

This is not my way of complaining but rather trying to understand the hows and whys so I can attempt to out-think ( as-it-where ) these insane moves made by morons and then I feel I have done my job . Capping stupidity is tough !

Oh Well , as I said last nite its a new day and this is not going dampen my spirit :

The reasons above are a few reasons of many why I am no longer a fan of baseball. IMO the sport is awful. Too many teams lead to mediocre talent. It's sickening knowing the salaries of some below average players.

Another problem is baseball's love afair with left hand pitching. How many lefties are in baseball that wouldn't be if they were right handed.

In the 70s the games were on average approx. 2 hours long. Now they are marathons!!! Hitters getting out of the batters box after EVERY pitch. Managers having pitchers facing one batter. The use of 3 or more pitchers in an inning. It goes on and on.

I do agree whole heartedly with your outlooks as to the state of the game today . But are we not (as part of our job) supposed to try and counter these sways of game mentality and incorporate them into our capping styles to try and stay ahead of these changes ?

Adapting to thier moves with our own moves will win the day ultimately and I try to change my way of thinking to get a pulse on them so I can counteract with moves of my own . As I stated above I am not angry as its part of the game , but rather upset about my inability to see these things before they happen because in the end thats what will win for you .

Also I feel that by far the toughest part of capping baseball is just that , making the same moves a manager will " before he does it " . If one can achieve this he will rule the day

Thanks and lets keep our nose to the grind stone because without change the books have our numbers .... indeed !
