HOCKEY PLAYS

General
Subject: Hockey Playoff Plays....

Remember, we are mock handicapping the NHL this year and we did very well during the regular season....The Playoffs have not been too good...This is what we have come up with for tonight.....

Leafs +125....Another one of those toss-up games where the home-ice means very little. Toronto stepped up their game and shut down the Sens in game 2, who did not have the referee's help like they did in game one. This should be a very close intense game, maybe even overtime, so we would take either club at this price.

Flyers +140....Sure, the Devils are in a "must" win situation here at home, but that does not translate into a "lock" or "guarantee" that they will. The facts are that they have been outplayed and outhustled by a hungrier and more talented Flyer team. Esche has been solid and has played much better than we projected. Brodeur has let in a couple of uncharacteristic weak goals and actually has looked tired at times....maybe now that he is over 30 he should stop playing 75 games a season! We will take the better club at this great price to put a stranglehold on this series.

Lightning -115 (2 units)....We were waiting for Tampa to lose one badly before we played them, and this is our opportunity. Now that they have been shut down offensively by the Islanders, the Lightning realize that it will take a total team effort to win, and that they must pay a physical price in the offensive zone if they are going to create quality scoring chances. They had similar letdowns at several points during the season, and always bounced back strong. We do not expect a letdown from the Islanders, but if Tampa shows up as we expect they will, the Islanders will be overmatched......

Sharks +120....Like the Devils, the Blues are in a "must" win situation tonight, but they must do it against the better team that has won the first two games, and who is playing with tremendous confidence. Add to that that the Blues are the lowest scoring team entering the playoffs, and have looked pathetic offensively so far, and that #1 goaltender Osgood injured his knee last game (he is listed as starting tonight). We are getting a very nice dog price and we will take it.

Stars-140 / Under 4.5 -110 (parlay pays +238)....this is one of those situational "risk vs. reward"
type parlays. Sure, Dallas has looked terrible so far, but they have been a much better team at home (still can't figure out why) losing only 1 of their last 20 games . We feel the Stars will shut down the Avs tonight, winning a low scoring game 2-0 ,2-1, 3-0, or 3-1. However, if the offensively superior Avs break out, we stand to lose both ways as we do not believe the Stars will win a high scoring game. Therefore, we will limit our potential losses on this matchup to 1 unit, while maximizing our potential profit.

I won my Sunday 2-Star Best Bet with Sacramento whipping the Lakers and I ended the week at 11-2-2 on a Star Basis. I am 250-147-13 (63%) on a Star basis for a profit of +88.3 Stars over the last 8 weeks. Since my season low of 99-95-7 on a Star basis on December 16th, my Best Bets are a very profitable 530-351-32, which is 60% - a number that I expect to continue to hit the rest of the season. I have been especially good in the NBA recently, going 29-14-1 on my NBA Best Bets the last 8 weeks (64-35-2 ATS on a Star Basis). I am now 629-446-39 on a Star basis on my Basketball Best Bets for the season - for a profit of +138.4 Stars at 10% juice.

Monday NBA Opinions (possible Best Bets)
Milwaukee (+1 ½) 108 CLEVELAND 103
The Bucks are coming off a surprising home loss to the Hornets, but that loss sets them up in a 131-67-2 ATS bounce-back situation tonight and Milwaukee is trying to lock up home court advantage in their first round playoff series. The Cavaliers are a much better team with Jeff McInnis playing and he returned on Saturday and led Cleveland to a 91-80 win over Miami. With McInnis, the Cavs are only about a point worse than an average team and my ratings favor Cleveland by a point in this game, so the line movement was justified (Milwaukee opened as a 2 point favorite). I’ll take 2 points or more with Milwaukee in a 2-Star Best Bet and I’ll consider the Bucks a Strong Opinion if they remain an underdog of less than 2 points. This game also applies to a decent 41-14-2 late-season OVER situation, so I’ll lean with the OVER.

DENVER (-3 ½) 109 Sacramento 100
The Kings came through for me yesterday with a resounding 2-Star Best Bet win over the Lakers, but Sacramento doesn’t play nearly as well on the road or when unrested. In fact, the Kings are just 9-28-1 ATS on the road if they played the previous day (0-5 ATS this season since Webber returned to the lineup), including their loss at Phoenix on Friday night (also a Best Bet win). Sacramento also applies to a negative 70-141-4 ATS 4th game in 5 days situation while the Nuggets qualify in a 114-60-4 ATS late season situation. The problem with this game is the lack of line value. My ratings favor Denver by just 1 point in this game, which is where the game opened, but the public has bet the game up to Denver by 3 ½ points. The situation is strong enough that the Nuggets still have a solid 56% chance of covering at -3 ½ points (57% at -3), but that’s not quite good enough to make them a Best Bet (I would lay 2 points or less with Denver in a 2-Star Best Bet).
