  • Thursday Baseball.........

The Padres screwed me again yesterday leaving 12 runners on base. LA is the worst 2-1 team in baseball right now and will make for a great fade the next few weeks. These are my plays for Thursdays.........

2 STAR: Chicago (+$220) OVER NEW YORK
2 STAR: DETROIT (+$115) OVER Minnesota
2 STAR: PITTSBURGH (+$155) OVER Philadelphia
2 STAR: San Francisco (+$135) OVER SAN DIEGO
2 STAR: Boston (-$175) OVER BALTIMORE

    *ALL LISTED PITCHERS MUST START

    2004 MLB RECORD

    5 STAR RECORD 0-1 (-5.75 UNITS)
    3 STAR RECORD 2-0 (+6.45 UNITS)
    2 STAR RECORD 2-3 (-2.10 UNITS)
    1 STAR RECORD 5-3 (+3.10 UNITS)

    OVERALL RECORD 9-8 (+1.70 UNITS)
    A $100 player would be up $170.00

    Good luck,
    John

            John (EZ):

            Re: Padres/ Dodgers game

I talked yesterday about the fact that many managers in MLB use too many pitchers in "role" situations. Well, I think it happened again. San Diego had E. Oropesa pitching in the bottom of the 11th..........he had two outs and one man on 1st (as the result of a one out walk) and instead of letting him close out the inning they take him out and replace him with I. Valdez. What happens: a wild pitch that moves the runner all the way to third and then a single that ends the game.
Why not just let Oropesa finish the inning; why bring in Valdez?

Is MLB still being played in the USA?................or are they now playing games in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Mexico?
            OROPESA, VALDEZ??.........(lol).

Anyway, good luck today John (EZ)!!

            Sincerely,
            Bennojd

Your right, when I saw Valdez enter the game I went to sleep. I knew we had just thrown in the towel. He is terrible.

Almost the Same thing Happened in the Pitt game Pitt has a 4-3 lead and they bring on this kid Johnson in the 7th in his first Major League Appearance and looks pretty good getting 2 k's in an inning of work The kid was pumped up and I'm feeling pretty good about seeing him in the 8th.. Not! They bring in Boehringer in the 8th and the Bum doesn't get an out 2 Hits and 2 walks he walks in the tying run for gods sakes. There was no need to take the kid out. Managers these days make moves just to make moves.

What do you expect when a pitcher who has stunk everywhere he has ever pitched (Bobby Jones) walks 4 in the same inning?

                        SF Giants vs. SD Padres:

San Francisco loses 4-3 in 10 innings.........and yet another case of a manager using too many pitchers.
First, with San Diego leading 1-0 the Giants bring a new pitcher (J. Christiansen) to start the bottom of the 8th. He faces one batter and gives up a walk so then he is immediately replaced by F. Rodriguez.
                        F. Rodriguez retires 3 batters in the bottom of the 8th with one walk being his only blemish. Then in the top of the 9th the Giants score 2 runs and take a 2-1 lead. You would assume F. Rodriguez would pitch the bottom of the 9th........NOT!
Instead the Giants bring in M. Herges and he gives up 1 run for the tie. The Giants again take the lead 3-2 after scoring one run in the top of the 10th so they bring back Herges for the bottom of the 10th. Herges ultimately gets two Padres out after letting two men on base (first and second). So Herges has the lead by one with a man on first and second and two outs but instead of letting him try for the final out and get out of his own mess FELIPE ALOU brings in D. Aardsma.
                        D. Aardsma gives up a groun-rule double that ties the game and then a single to end it.........SICKENING!
FELIPE ALOU claims the reason he took out Herges is because he's the Giants closer and he doesn't want to blow out his arm in the first week of the season........what a bunch of B.S.!!
The Giants used a grand total six pitchers in 9 and 2/3 innings.

What is going on in MLB with these chess-like moves in the relief pitching area?
Why not leave a pitcher in if he's doing well and getting outs?
Why so quick to bring another pitcher in the game?
It seems the more relief pitchers a manager uses in a close game the more likely that one of those pitchers will have "lousy stuff" and wind up losing the game for his team!

                        Sincerely,
                        Bennojd
