ORGIA TECH (28-9 SU/20-15 ATS) vs CONNECTICUT (32-6 SU/15-18-1 ATS)
Georgia Tech and Connecticut meet in the National Championship game in San Antonio. Georgia Tech comes off a 67-65 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday as +4 point underdogs. Will Bynum hit a layup with 1.5 seconds remaining to propel Georgia Tech to its first ever NCAA Tournament final. Bynum finished with 11 points, but it was Luke Schenscher's 19 points and 12 rebounds -- both game highs -- that led the Jackets to the win. Marvin Lewis added 15 points for Georgia Tech, which all came in the first half on five three-pointers. Jarrett Jack also scored 10 points, while leading scorer B.J. Elder had just two points in 19 minutes and was obviously still affected by and injured right ankle. Tech led 37-30 at the half and held on for the narrow win in the second half. For the game, Georgia Tech made 49 percent of its shots, while Oklahoma State shot 44 percent. The Yellow Jackets are outscoring their foes by an average of 10.2 ppg this season and are now an amazing 27-2 SU when holding the opposition to 80 points or less. Georgia Tech is shooting nearly 47 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three-point land and forces their opponents into 17 turnovers per game. Elder is the team's leading scorer with an average of 15.3 ppg, but is still hampered by an ankle injury as previously mentioned. Jack scores 12.7 ppg and dishes out a team-high 5.7 apg and also leads the team with 70 steals. Marvin Lewis adds 11.0 ppg and is the team's top three-point threat, hitting 40.1 percent from long distance. Isma'il Muhammad (9.4 ppg), Bynum (9.3 ppg) and Schenscher (8.9 ppg/team-high 6.4 rpg) give the Jackets plenty of options and balance on the offense.
UConn is off a 79-78 win over Duke on Saturday as -2 point chalks. Emeka Okafor, who only played about three minutes in the first half after picking up two quick fouls, scored all 18 of his points in the final 14 minutes, including the go-ahead bucket with 26 seconds remaining, to lift Connecticut into the NCAA Tournament final. The Huskies scored 12 straight points to erase a 75-67 Duke lead with little more than three minutes remaining in a thrilling finish. Okafor took advantage of an overmatched Duke defense that was missing forward Shelden Williams, who fouled out with 5:04 remaining in the game. UConn led by four with 3.2 seconds left, but Duke's Chris Duhon hit a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Blue Devils the "cover". Ben Gordon also scored 18 points and Rashad Anderson added 14 points in the win, while Josh Boone had 9 points and a game-high 14 boards. UConn had won its previous four games in the tournament by a combined 70 points, but found it to be a bit tougher against Duke. Okafor, an All-American, averages a double-double with 17.4 ppg and 11.6 boards per game and leads the nation in blocked shots (143). Gordon averages 18.5 ppg and is shooting 43.7 percent from three-point land. Anderson averages 11.0 ppg, while Charlie Villanueva (9.3 ppg), Denham Brown (9.2 ppg), Taliek Brown (6.2 ppg, 6.65 apg) and Boone (5.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg) give the team plenty of depth up front and in the backcourt. Georgia Tech is 9-1 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last ten games, while UConn is 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last ten games. The Yellow Jackets played the 5th toughest schedule in the country this season, while UConn's strength of schedule ranks 28th in the nation. Georgia Tech comes in 7-3 ATS as a 'dog this season and beat UConn earlier this season in the semi-finals of the NIT preseason Tournament, winning 77-61 as +8 point road underdogs. Take the points.
