Like we say, spring training may not be indicative of how a team does overall, but it is a good indicator of how players and teams do early. Unless LA’s starter is Hideous Nomo (get it?), the Dodgers are in some real trouble. Hideo Nomo was 1-4 with an 8.83 ERA in the preseason and led all of the big league’s in walks with 14 while allowing 39 hits in just 27 2/3 IP.
Brian Lawrence has a personal 7-2 record against the Dodgers with an ERA of 1.95 and a WHIP of 0.992. Meanwhile in 15 career starts to the Fathers, Nomo is –4.7 units and has an ERA of 5.12 and a WHIP of 1.401. SD has beaten him 4-of-5 including pounding him for five or more runs in 2-of-3.
