It did'nt look very good for the over with the Red Sox leaving so many runners on base, but we were still able to squeek out a winner on the over Sunday night! These are my plays for Monday........
3 STAR: San Diego (+105) OVER LOS ANGELES
(BRIAN LAWRENCE VS. HIDEO NOMO)
(BOTH PITCHERS MUST START)
The Padres look to be a much improved team this season and I like this match up we have today with Lawrence against Nomo. Neither of these pitchers have had a good spring, Brian Lawrence's velocity is down, but I am not really that concerned by that because he has always been a soft thrower. Nomo on the other hand is coming off of surgery and is really struggling. He is definitely not right, his velocity down, hanging pitches, no bite to the splitter and just does not look like himself. Lawrence has been great against LA in the past, his career record against the Dodgers is 7-3 with an ERA of only 1.95. LA did not do much to add to their pathetic offense of a year ago, and I look for Lawrence to have a good outing in this game. Hideo Nomo is only 8-8 in his career against the Padres with an ERA of 4.58 and will be facing a much improved Padres lineup that now features Brian Giles and a health Phil Nevin. Last year the Dodgers were 1-4 when Nomo started against San Diego including 1-2 at home. Take San Diego here, look for Nomo to make an early exit!
2 STAR: Cleveland (+135) OVER MINNESOTA
(C.C. SABATHIA VS. BRAD RADKE)
(BOTH PITCHERS MUST START)
The Indians could be a surprise team this season and I like them in this match up. CC Sabathia is 4-2 against the Twins lifetime with a 3.82 ERA. Brad Radke is over-rated in my opinion and he has not had a lot of success against the Tribe in the past. Radke's career mark against Cleveland is 6-15 with an ERA of 5.90. The Twins are also only 46-59 against left handed starters the last three seasons. I look for the Tribe to scalp the Twins in this one!
1 STAR: Chicago Cubs (-210) OVER CINCINNATI
(KERRY WOOD VS. CORY LIDLE)
(KERRY WOOD MUST START)
I like the Cubbies here with Kerry Wood who has been lights out this spring. Wood finished 5-0 with a 1.05 ERA in six spring starts and should carry that over against a team that he has dominated in the past. Kerry Wood is 10-2 in his career with an ERA of 2.32 against the Reds. Look for Chicago to get the job done here!
