In my analysis of this game on a thread earlier this week, I stressed the importance of getting two points in a game that was likely to go to the wire. Often, people think of games with small spreads as being games where it is only necessary to pick the winner. +2 is a lot different from +1.

Nonetheless, I was admittedly totally luck. Consider this, if Okafor misses both free throws, UConn probably contests the three and it doesn't go in. Or, Okafor makes the first one and misses the second one----this would have started the clock on the rebound and Duke never would have gotten up court in time.

Better to be lucky than right.

I was thinking the same exact thing as i was watching the end of the game. The worst thing to do was miss the first and make the 2nd....... for me anyway.

Curious about only one UConn player on the line during 2nd ft. If he had missed, no chance at a rebound and Duke would still have time.

True. But UConn was back on defense and with the clock starting as soon as the rebounder tocues it, the upcourt pass likely talkes about 1.3 seconds. This first pass occurred without the clock running because of the made free throw. One other possibility, if UCOnn had missed both free throws, they might have fouled to stop the three point shot.

I don't think they are THAT smart to foul and no timeouts to tell them to foul. Take your chances on the fluke shot I guess.
