Game: Rutgers at Iowa State Mar 30 2004 7:00PM
Prediction: Rutgers
Reason: Since this game is from Madison Square Garden, technically it's a neutral court. The fact is, the NIT sets it up so teams close to New York have an edge to advance, which is what they want. Yes, it has to do with MONEY -- the more locals in the stands, the more money the tourney makes. Rutgers (New Jersey) is not a long trip to Madison Square Garden. Rutgers has the frontcourt to match up with Iowa State's Jackson Vroman, and Rutgers is a strong three-point shooting team (36%, fourth in the Big East). Iowa State is 9th in the big 12 at defending the three-pointer. This one may come down to long range shooting and home court, and both edges lean toward Rutgers. Also, Iowa State has been abysmal on the road this season at 2-11 s/u, 4-9 ats. In fact, their road defense allows 78 ppg! Iowa State is 0-2 ats as a road favorite this season.
