We cashed in both games yesterday, lets try to sweep the Elite Eight with today's plays. Two big ones for me today........
5 STAR: GEORGIA TECH (+5) OVER Kansas
This line opened at Kansas -3 1/2, but was quickly bet up to as high as 5 1/2 points Saturday afternoon. There is huge value in this line, the wrong team is favored. Kansas has had a very easy road in this tournament. After beating Illinois-Chicago in the first round, the Jayhawks have played the lowest seed possible in their next two games with wins over Providence and UAB. Due to upsets, they have avoided having to play Providence and Kentucky or else they would already be at home watching the games on tv. Don't let these wins fool you, especially the big win over UAB. That was one of those games where everything goes your way. They will be in a battle with Georgia Tech, with or without BJ Elder. The Jayhawks are 0-3 against the spread in their last three meetings with an ACC team, 5-7 against the spread against non conference opponents this season and just 12-14 against the spread this season when playing against a team with winning record. Georgia Tech this season is 6-3 against the spread as an underdog and 10-5 against the spread in non conference games. Georgia Tech is battle tested, they were a solid 9-6 straight up against top 30 teams this season, while the Jayhawks were only 1-5 straight up against the top 30 teams they played this season. Take the points!
5 STAR: XAVIER (+7.5) OVER Duke
There is not a hotter team in the nation than Xavier. The Musketeers have won 16 out of their last 17 games straight up and they are 16-1 against the spread in those games! The will not be intimidated by Duke, nor will they be overmatched. Xavier's great run has not been against cupcake competition either. During this run they have beaten quality tournament teams such as Cincinnati, Richmond, Dayton twice, St. Joes, Louisville, Mississippi State and in their last game Texas. That is a quite impressive list. I think they match up pretty well with Duke. I give the back court advantage to Xavier. Sato and Chalmers are playing as well as any backcourt in the tournament for Xavier, while Duhon is playing injured and Reddick has struggled with his shot for Duke. Talent wise, I do give a slight advantage to Duke in the paint with Sheldon Williams and Luol Deng but the Musketeers do have a strong inside presence with five players over 6-foot-9 to match up with the Dukies. This should be a close game all the way, and don't be surprised if Xavier pulls off another upset. Take the points!
